Full Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities:

This position will support development of new hardware products for the Fiber Optic Test & Measurement business unit. The candidate will work on developing products in the area of optical measurement systems. This involves working within a team environment to develop solutions using state-of-the-art technologies including microcontrollers, DSPs, high speed data acquisition, algorithms, USB, Ethernet, and other technologies as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of optical test equipment and systems, including optical measurement devices, sensors, and test benches for performance verification of fiber optic components.
  • System Integration: Work closely with optical, software, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate hardware and software for automated optical testing systems and products.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Design and build prototypes for optical test setups and equipment, ensuring that all systems meet performance specifications through rigorous testing and validation.
  • Optical Measurement: Develop, validate, and implement optical measurement techniques and methodologies, including the design of optical setups for system calibration, alignment, and performance verification.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in test systems, propose and implement design optimizations, and develop best practices for optical test equipment development.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, bill of materials (BOMs), and test protocols.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D, product development, and manufacturing teams to ensure that optical testing equipment meets the needs of customers.
  • Troubleshooting & Debugging: Perform in-depth troubleshooting and debugging of optical test equipment, identifying root causes and resolving issues related to hardware, optics, or integration.
  • Research & Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advances in optical testing technologies and provide technical guidance on new testing methods and equipment to improve testing accuracy and efficiency.


Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Experience:
  • B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • FPGA development, simulation, and verification
  • Analog and Digital Design.
  • Ability to multitask - support multiple programs.
  • Familiar with all phases of design - research, development, NPI to remote CM and ongoing support
  • History of close work with SW and/or Mech/Optical design


Preferred experience:
  • PCB Design
  • Design for optical circuit packs/line cards or similar
  • Participation in high level architectural planning
  • Programing in Python, MATLab
