Full Job Description
Are you a front-end engineer energized by leading UI modernization and solving complex technical challenges? If so, we'd love to talk.

As a Staff Frontend Engineer on Ridgeline's Market Data team, you'll lead the team's UI modernization efforts and play a key role in the Instrument Master migration, driving the shift from legacy front-end patterns to modern practices.

Market Data is responsible for bringing external data into Ridgeline and making it available to every user and customer, maintaining the data models and relationships that power the platform and exposing them through quality APIs and data contracts. Today, that means modernizing legacy UI patterns across surfaces like Instrument Master; over time, you'll help set the front-end technical direction for the broader team.

You must be work authorized in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

The impact you will have:
  • Evaluate current UI components for modernization opportunities and research modern front-end frameworks and libraries. Serve as the team's primary link to the Platform UI organization, quickly understanding and implementing new patterns and capabilities into the team's projects.
  • Guide early- to mid-career developers by sharing coding best practices and providing constructive feedback during code reviews. Push the team to tackle harder technical problems and raise the bar on quality.
  • Define a UI strategy that aligns with overall product goals. Partner with adjacent teams identify opportunities to unify shared capabilities across the broader engineering organization.
  • Collaborate with product managers to clarify user needs and translate them into precise technical specifications, keeping frontend and backend teams aligned on integration needs.
  • Lead front-end engineering initiatives to adopt modern UI practices and improve overall code quality. Mentor team members on advanced techniques and frameworks, identify skill gaps, and establish coding standards that raise the codebase's quality bar.
  • Contribute to the migration of the Instrument Master UI - one of the most heavily used surfaces in the product - identifying and mitigating risks as part of a broader overhaul to modern technology patterns.
  • Analyze the existing codebase to identify opportunities for improved maintainability, implement automated testing strategies to boost test coverage, and refactor legacy code to simplify structure and improve readability.
  • Partner with backend engineers to define API specifications and data contracts, and identify and resolve issues related to data flow between frontend and backend systems.

What we look for:
  • 10+ years of industry experience in front-end development, with a track record of leading UI modernization projects that measurably improved the user experience.
  • Strong expertise in React, JavaScript, and TypeScript, with experience across UI component libraries and design patterns.
  • Experience in UI testing frameworks like Playwright, Cypress, and Jest.
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, including guiding early-career engineers and contributing to their professional growth.
  • Experience migrating a legacy system to a modern tech stack while managing risk and ensuring a smooth transition.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Familiarity with automated testing strategies and frameworks, with a track record of driving code quality and testing practices that raise team standards.
  • Experience with code quality tools and coding standards.
  • Ability to define and implement API specifications for frontend/backend integration.
  • Ability to leverage AI across all phases of the development lifecycle (AI-native SDLC), including design collaboration and testing strategy.
  • Experience partnering across teams to unify capabilities and improve product cohesion.
  • Genuine curiosity about the financial services / investment management space (deep domain expertise not required).

Bonus:
  • AWS / cloud-native application experience
  • Backend-for-front-end development experience
  • Java or Kotlin experience
  • Background in financial services or investment management (a plus, not required)
