Summary

The Staff Engineer, Hardware Test - Thermal, plans, schedules, obtains resources, captures product stream, executes, and gathers and analyzes data for the test of thermal and mechanical systems. A Hardware Test Engineer will test function and performance to specification of trays, racks, and related equipment.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Review and interpret customer requirements and specifications to determine the methods and success criteria for functional and performance tests.
  • Create test plans to measure capability against expectations at each stage of the life cycle, using design of experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies.
  • Arrange resources and supply of units to test.
  • Determine the methods, procedures, instrumentation, and data collection methods for tests.
  • Use equipment such as Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ), Flow Bench, CDU specification, control and connection, flow meters, temperature probes, pressure sensors, leak tester.
  • Create scripts to read data from prototype computers.
  • Able to interconnect lab equipment using RS232, Ethernet, USB, and bluetooth communications.
  • Execute tests through hands-on work and the leadership of others, collect and analyze data, report and present results to the larger engineering community, management, and customers.
  • Design tests to use methods and instrumentation with sufficient precision and resolution to guarantee performance to spec.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of lab technicians.
  • Take responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.)
  • Analyze tradeoffs in complex test strategies and recommend solutions. Develop deployment strategies and plans.
  • Establish best known methods and processes for test development and execution for local, regional or global teams.
  • Have a full understanding of the design and physical operating principles involved of the function of units under test.
  • Determine required infrastructure and lab resources to ensure full capacity for required tests.
  • Develop automated methods to execute tests and collect data.
  • Design tests and test vehicles including mechanical, thermal, and power systems.
  • Execute qualification requirements by applying statistical and common industry methods


Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in labs, test floors, and in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of standing, lifting and assembling hardware, and connecting test equipment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
