Full Job Description
Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to assume comprehensive technical ownership of the electronics EMI/EMC test strategy, validation, and regulatory compliance infrastructure for the Apollo humanoid robot platform. This role is tailored for a technical leader who will define our pre-compliance testing frameworks, design advanced test fixtures, and serve as the company's ultimate authority on EMI/EMC debugging and failure resolution. The ideal candidate has successfully steered market-released products through complete regulatory compliance cycles within the robotics, automotive, medical, personal electronics, or enterprise spaces.
Responsibilities
  • Test Strategy & Ownership: Own and execute the end-to-end EMI/EMC validation matrix and pre-compliance test plans to guarantee strict compliance with global performance specifications and regulatory mandates (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
  • Pre-Compliance Infrastructure: Establish the internal pre-compliance testing pipeline from scratch, including selecting, procuring, and configuring specialized lab equipment dedicated to EMI/EMC profiling, emission sniffing, and hardware debugging.
  • Fixture Design & Testing: Architect and build complex test fixtures, custom shielding setups, and automated testing arrangements required for rigorous EMI/EMC evaluation.
  • Design for Compliance: Serve as the core technical authority in hardware design reviews, actively injecting EMI/EMC best practices (e.g., grounding strategies, stack-up optimization, decoupling, shielding) into the initial schematic and layout phases to eliminate compliance risks before spin.
  • Root-Cause Debugging: Lead cross-functional engineering squads during hardware failures, driving advanced root-cause analysis, failure isolation, and mitigation implementation for complex radiated and conducted emissions or immunity issues.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including technical leads, project managers, software, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing. Manage 3rd party relationships with certified EMI/EMC testing laboratories, vendors, and contract manufacturers. Act as a mentor within the electrical engineering team, guiding junior engineers on best practices for hardware design, documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Leadership: Drive project execution with leadership, program management, and engineering peers. Define testing roadmaps with product managers, systems engineers, and technical leads. Lead debugging and root cause analysis related to hardware and software defect resolution. Align technical implementation and execution with company goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of hardware engineering experience with a track record in product compliance, validation engineering, and EMI mitigation.
  • Demonstrated experience taking a product through FCC (Part 15b) and CE radiated and conducted emissions testing.
  • Deep working knowledge of 47 CFR 15.109 and IEC 61000-6 series standards.
  • Mastery of standard laboratory diagnostic tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, near-field probes, LISNs, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes).
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written); will be expected to author exhaustive test reports and compliance documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and hardware debugging skills.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing, including the use of lab equipment.
  • Experience with robotics or designing electronics for lightweight, space-constrained systems is a significant plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
