Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer - R&D Surgical Robotics for its Cincinnati, OH location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal and external teams to develop capital surgical and support equipment.
  • Design, layout, fabricate, bring-up, debug, test, document and release complex PCBAs for medical grade products, capital and support equipment.
  • Develop, debug, integrate and release firmware and embedded micro-code as needed.
  • Identify, prototype and develop existing and novel sensor solutions in support of the development of complex surgical instruments.
  • Collaborate across internal organizations and external partners as part of a multi-functional technical team.
  • Develop detailed product requirements, engineering specifications, system architecture, detailed component specifications, verification and validation test protocols and reports.
  • Bring-up, debug and Integrate electronics subsystems and manage dependencies across the system.
  • Builds, review, and update electrical drawings to communicate technical requirements to internal and external partners.
  • Author and execute electrical verification tests.


Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 7+ years of industry experience developing electrical and embedded systems for commercial products.
  • Experience designing electrical schematics, developing PCB layouts, and partnering with external vendors for fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience bringing up, testing, debugging, and releasing complex printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong experience integrating and troubleshooting embedded hardware and firmware subsystems, including microcontrollers, sensors, memory devices, and serial communication interfaces and protocols.
  • Experience developing, testing, integrating, and releasing embedded firmware and low-level software for production products.
  • Proficiency using electrical laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers to diagnose system-level issues.
  • Experience planning and executing hardware and firmware verification activities to ensure product performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally to define technical requirements, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a results-oriented mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts and influence stakeholders across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and leadership teams.


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience designing embedded PCBAs, including schematic capture, layout collaboration, bring-up, integration, and troubleshooting. Experience with Cadence design tools is a plus.
  • Experience developing products for capital equipment, medical devices, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design, simulation, signal integrity analysis, and system-level testing.
  • Experience designing systems utilizing application-level microprocessors and embedded computing platforms.
  • Strong electrical design and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate electrical architectures, subsystems, and their interactions within complex systems.
  • Experience working in research and development environments to deliver innovative solutions involving complex system architectures and multidisciplinary technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer, user, and business needs into technical requirements, evaluate design alternatives, and communicate tradeoffs to support informed decision-making.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence, product performance, schedule, cost, and business objectives when developing engineering solutions.
  • Experience collaborating across hardware, firmware, systems, software, quality, and manufacturing teams to deliver successful product outcomes.


The anticipated base pay range for this position is $109,000.00 to $174,800.00

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
