Overview

LMI is building a secure mission data platform for the U.S. Army. We are seeking a Staff Data Engineer to own the design and delivery of the data pipelines and data products that power it.

This is a senior individual-contributor role for an engineer who can make architectural decisions, build production systems, and raise the technical standard of the broader team.

 

Responsibilities
  • Own the architecture and implementation of scalable data pipelines and data products.
  • Integrate data from distributed repositories, applications, and enterprise systems.
  • Design for data quality, lineage, security, observability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Establish engineering standards for testing, source control, deployment, and operations.
  • Work across platform, security, software, and mission teams to deliver production capability.
  • Review technical designs, mentor engineers, and resolve complex integration challenges.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Eight or more years of experience building production data systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Python, SQL, and modern data-engineering patterns.
  • Experience designing data pipelines and services in cloud or distributed environments.
  • Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including testing, source control, CI/CD, and operational monitoring.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ownership of complex data capabilities.
  • Experience supporting a Department of Defense customer.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting the U.S. Army.
  • Experience with AWS or another large-scale cloud platform.
  • Familiarity with Palantir Foundry, Army Vantage, or comparable data platforms.
  • Experience integrating enterprise content repositories and legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with distributed processing, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps.

Target salary range: $101,000 - 174,000
