Title: Staff Control System Software Engineer - 122607

Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Controls System Software Engineer for Guidance and Autonomy located in Cary, NC, you will...

  • Provide technical leadership to design, develop, integrate, and validate complex control system software for advanced guidance, steering, automation, and machine-control features.
  • Lead control algorithm and software design decisions to ensure cost, reliability, schedule, safety, and performance objectives are achieved.
  • Develop and apply model-based design, simulation, and analysis methods to evaluate control performance before lab and machine validation.
  • Research, define, and execute plans to close gaps in current control strategies, dynamic system performance, sensing, actuation, and software implementation.
  • Manage technical knowledge sharing, mentor team members, and contribute to the growth of organizational capability in controls, simulation, and embedded control software.
  • Support and lead multiple technical efforts or projects, providing clear communication of progress, risks, tradeoffs, and technical recommendations to senior leaders and partners.

What Skills You Need

  • Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience developing embedded control system software using C/C++ for real-time machine or vehicle applications
  • At least 5 years of experience with a strong knowledge of control system design, dynamic systems, sensing, actuation, signal processing, and closed-loop performance analysis
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience using simulation, data analysis, and model-based design tools to develop, tune, and validate control algorithms
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work with minimal guidance and make sound engineering decisions across software, systems, and machine-level tradeoffs
  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate, and build credibility across controls, embedded software, systems, test, and product teams
  • Strong ability to define technical direction, drive execution, and balance quality, cost, schedule, safety, and performance considerations


What Makes You Stand Out

  • Deep experience with vehicle dynamics, steering controls, guidance, autonomy, path tracking, or precision machine control technologies
  • Experience developing and validating control algorithms in Matlab/Simulink or similar model-based design environments
  • Experience integrating control software with sensors, actuators, controllers, communication buses, and real-time operating environments
  • Knowledge of production turf practices, machines, and customer workflows
  • Experience with MIL, SIL, HIL, lab, and machine validation methods for control system software
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional technical initiatives at a divisional or platform level


Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent related work experience
