Position: Staff Attorney
Position Overview: The Staff Attorney provides legal advice, strategic counsel, and practical business solutions to a broad range of internal client groups, including Human Resources, Programming, Government Relations, Construction/Engineering, Marketing, Customer Care, Commercial and Enterprise Services, and Operations. The position supports compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, structures, drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts, and prepares and reviews a variety of legal and business communications.
The Staff Attorney is expected to leverage modern legal research, knowledge management, and AI-assisted legal technology tools to improve efficiency, enhance legal analysis, and support business decision-making while maintaining professional judgment, confidentiality, ethical obligations, and attorney work product protections.
Key Responsibilities- Provide timely legal advice and counsel on a broad range of business, regulatory, employment, commercial, marketing, consumer protection, and operational matters.
- Structure, draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
- Review and prepare correspondence, marketing materials, customer complaint responses, internal memoranda, and other business communications.
- Conduct legal research and analysis using traditional and technology-enabled research platforms, including AI-assisted legal research and document review tools, while independently validating legal conclusions.
- Monitor, interpret, and advise business stakeholders regarding developments in applicable laws, regulations, administrative guidance, and case law impacting the telecommunications and broadband industry.
- Collaborate with legal department personnel and cross-functional business teams to identify and manage legal and regulatory risks.
- Utilize AI-enabled productivity, document review, contract analysis, and legal knowledge management tools to enhance efficiency and consistency while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to ethical standards.
- Partner with outside counsel on litigation, regulatory, employment, commercial, and other legal matters.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports required by state franchising authorities and other regulatory agencies.
- Support interactions with federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory bodies.
- Assist with legal operations initiatives, including document management, process improvement, legal workflow automation, and technology adoption.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to at least one State Bar and in good standing, or actively seeking admission to the applicable State Bar.
- One to five years legal experience preferred
Required Skills and Competencies- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to business audiences.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in modern legal research platforms and technologies, including legal databases, document management systems, knowledge management tools, and AI-assisted legal research and drafting applications.
- Ability to evaluate, validate, and exercise independent legal judgment regarding outputs generated by AI and technology-assisted tools.
- Understanding of attorney ethical obligations, confidentiality requirements, privilege protections, cybersecurity risks, and responsible AI governance principles.
- Strong business acumen and ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and technology-enabled collaboration tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple business functions.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting regulated industries, telecommunications, broadband, media, or technology companies.
- Experience with compliance, regulatory, employment, commercial contracting, privacy, or AI governance matters.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted legal research, contract lifecycle management systems, legal operations platforms, and document automation technologies.
