Full Job Description
SUMMARY OF ROLE:

We are looking for a hands-on Staff Algorithms R&D Engineer to drive the development and testing of algorithms for our life-saving wearable medical devices and our Cloud data services. These algorithms span a wide range of product facets, from machine learning algorithms that drive the core life-saving functionality of our wearable devices to biometric data detection and signal processing. The ideal candidate thrives in a commercial start-up environment that is scaling rapidly, can help drive strategic planning of algorithm-related business needs, and can execute algorithm design, development, and testing.

This is a hybrid role based in our San Francisco office, with a planned transition to our Redwood City, CA office within the year. We are in office every other week Tuesday through Thursday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive the design, development, and testing of various algorithms, including biometric sensing, signal processing, control and machine learning rhythm identification algorithms used in life-saving wearable medical devices.
  • Contribute to strategic planning of product improvements, new product concepts, and algorithm development needs across the business.
  • Define technical content for product design including design requirements and specifications, verification and validation plans, protocols, and reports, and risk management files.
  • Perform hands-on algorithm development, from exploratory engineering testing and formal validation testing. Author test protocols and reports and obtain cross-functional alignment.
  • Collaborate with the Software Engineering and Information Technology teams to define Cloud-based data architectures for wearable device data and business operations data, including storage, transformations, and interfaces with machine learning algorithms.
  • Contribute to the implementation of scalable methods, processes, and tools that accelerate machine learning algorithm development and testing.
  • Provide algorithm support during clinical studies and commercial release of new products.
  • Provide technical expertise during cross functional engineering activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship across the engineering team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 years minimum of relevant industry experience. Experience in the medical device industry preferred.
  • Strong experience with digital signal processing concepts such as filtering and frequency analysis.
  • Experience with empirical biometric sensing algorithms development.
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms highly preferred.
  • Strong experience applying advanced mathematical techniques (e.g., linear algebra, statistics, gradient descent, etc.) to solve engineering problems.
  • Strong coding skills using Python. Familiarity with MATLAB preferred. Familiarity with C/C++ a plus.
  • Experience leading projects within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience with physiological signals such as ECG, PPG, EEG, etc. a plus.
  • Experience with AWS Cloud tools for large data processing a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

BENEFITS:

Element Science offers a very competitive salary and benefits package including, but not limited to:
  • Stock Options
