Hotel Name: M Social Sunnyvale
Location: Onsite - Sunnyvale, CA
Salary Range: $38.00 - $40.00 Hourly

About the Role:

As our Staff Accountant, you will support the hotel's financial operations by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Working closely with the Director of Finance and hotel leadership, you will help provide timely financial information that supports sound business decisions and operational success.

What You'll Be Doing

General Accounting
  • Prepare and maintain journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with company policies and GAAP
  • Analyze financial transactions and identify discrepancies for resolution

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and variance analysis
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Compile operational reports for hotel leadership and corporate finance
  • Maintain organized accounting files and supporting documentation

Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
  • Review invoices for accuracy and assist with payment processing
  • Monitor accounts receivable balances and assist with collections when necessary
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve billing discrepancies
  • Ensure timely processing of payments and deposits
  • Maintain vendor and customer account records

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company accounting policies, and internal controls
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation
  • Support compliance with tax reporting requirements and financial regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and company records
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency

Team Collaboration
  • Partner with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Sales, Human Resources, Purchasing, and other departments to resolve accounting-related issues
  • Communicate financial information clearly and professionally
  • Provide accounting support to department leaders as needed
  • Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-oriented work environment

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements
    • Minimum 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in hospitality or a related industry
    • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with hotel accounting systems, ERP platforms, or financial software preferred
    • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and fixed assets
    • Experience with hotel Property Management Systems (Opera Cloud) and accounting software is a plus

Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous accounting experience in a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment preferred
    • Experience supporting month-end close and financial audits
    • Knowledge of hotel revenue streams and hospitality accounting practices
    • CPA eligibility or pursuit of professional accounting certification is a plus
    • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Physical Requirements
    • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
    • Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
    • Ability to move throughout the hotel to support operational needs
    • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment

Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
    • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered where appropriate
