Staff Accountant

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of accounting experience and hands-on knowledge in one or more of the following areas: fixed assets, construction in progress (CIP), depreciation, inventory management, or inventory costing.

This role will be responsible for supporting key accounting processes while also assisting with general accounting activities and the monthly close. The successful candidate will be analytical, organized, comfortable working across multiple areas of accounting, and committed to maintaining accurate and timely financial records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform accounting activities related to fixed assets, CIP, depreciation, inventory, and/or inventory costing, depending on experience.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset and/or inventory-related general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
  • Review asset additions, transfers, disposals, and capitalization of completed CIP projects, as applicable.
  • Prepare and record depreciation and other recurring journal entries.
  • Support inventory accounting activities, including reconciliations, costing, reserves, adjustments, and analysis, as applicable.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies and reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Perform variance and account analysis and provide explanations for significant or unusual activity.
  • Assist with other general accounting responsibilities and special projects as needed.
  • Provide supporting documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure accounting transactions are complete and accurately recorded.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing improvements to accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with established accounting policies, internal controls, and applicable GAAP requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge and practical experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Fixed asset accounting
    • Construction in progress (CIP) and capitalization
    • Depreciation
    • Inventory accounting and management
    • Inventory costing
  • Experience participating in the month-end close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or other inventory-intensive environment.
  • Experience with standard costing, inventory variance analysis, or manufacturing accounting.
  • Experience with ERP systems and fixed asset or inventory subledgers.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and internal control requirements.


In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $95,000 - $132,000 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
