Sr. Trade Control Analyst

Houston, TX

Talen Energy is seeking a Sr. Trade Control Analyst to join their Risk team in the Houston, TX corporate office. The primary responsibilities for this individual are for day-to-day trade reporting by ensuring the accuracy of the trade bookings in the systems and ensuring trades accuracy. Maintaining accurate data and reporting is key for the checks and balances of our organization.

  • Daily trade reconciliation, including reconciling against internal risk limits, trade modifications & Day One PnL.
  • Daily Price Curve Validation.
  • Daily Exchange & FCM Limit reconciliation.
  • EOD trader checkout process.
  • Daily communication in support of the Commercial Trading team e.g. technical support, trade flow & amendments.
  • Working with Traders, Risk, Accounting and IT on non-standard trade requests & new curve pricing setup.
  • Analyze trade controls reports to ensure compliance with risk management and trading controls policies.
  • Management & Enforcement of the DOA & Risk Policy
  • Back-up for the daily Confirmations process for OTC Counterparties and Brokers.
  • Back-up for ISO, Exchange, & ETRM privileging and access
  • Proactively develop strategies or recommendations to improve trade control reporting operations.

In addition to the above essential responsibilities, the Trade Control Analyst will also have the opportunity to assist with ad-hoc risk projects (Market Risk, QRM, Credit) that will benefit the wider team and allow for improvements within our own Trade Control remit.

To be successful in this role a candidate will need to have;

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills with the willingness to proactively investigate issues and escalate when required.
  • Strong Excel skills, allowing them to reconcile datasets for discrepancies and present data in a way that can be easily communicated.
  • Expertise in the use of VBA, SQL, Python (or other data analysis packages) to conduct analyses of large data sets and automate above referenced excel reporting as needed.
  • A detail-oriented mind-set, being able to readily identify discrepancies and deficiencies that should be acted upon and escalated.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, both oral and written, as the candidate will be the primary point of contact for Commercial, Settlements, Accounting & IT when it comes to trade booking.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent time management ability to clearly identify those needs which must be met within defined timelines vs. those which are flexible.

In addition, candidates would likely benefit from having any of the following;

  • Prior exposure to U.S. wholesale power markets, and how market participants use
  • Expertise in the use of VBA, SQL, Python (or other data analysis packages) to conduct analyses of large data sets and automate above referenced excel reporting as needed.
