Full Job Description
We're hiring a Sr. Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to build the physical hardware designs that harden IT workstations across Amazon's fulfillment network - 30,000+ stations per year across hundreds of buildings globally.

The work is mechanical design at scale: you pull a building's layout, assess whether our standardized station components fit, engineer modifications where they don't, and deliver a documented design package that vendors can build and field teams can install - right the first time. The challenge is precision and consistency across hundreds of building variations, tight cyclical deployment windows, and near-zero tolerance for rework - because an error at design cascades to thousands of stations.

You'll join a new team that's building its engineering processes from scratch. We need someone who brings best practices from industry - documentation standards, design validation rigor, cross-functional communication habits - and helps us build the playbook as we scale.

Key job responsibilities

- Pull building CAD/layout files for upcoming and previous deployments and assess whether existing standardized station components fit the space. Engineer modifications (SolidWorks step files, drawings) where they don't.

- Deliver documented, locked design packages to deployment teams - specs, BOM, install guides, and constraints clear enough that a 3PL crew can install without calling you.

- Write component specifications to a standard that multiple vendors can compete on - enabling supply chain to run RFPs rather than sole-sourcing custom parts.

- Conduct field fit assessments at fulfillment sites (~35% travel) - validate designs against real building conditions, identify issues before they become deployment blockers.

- Track design milestones against cyclical funding and installation windows - the deployment calendar is fixed, and designs must be ready before the window opens or we miss the opportunity.

- Build and maintain design documentation, validation records, and fit assessment results - contribute to the team's standards and engineering process as we build it from scratch.

- Collaborate cross-functionally with launch teams (understanding what's been deployed historically and what variation exists), supply chain (pricing and sourcing), and deployment engineers (install execution and feedback).

- Identify potential design issues early - an error not caught at the design stage delays a multi-year program.

A day in the life

Your morning might start with a batch of building layouts for 5 sites scheduled to deploy next quarter. You open SolidWorks, pull in the station CAD, and overlay it against each building's floor plan - 3 fit perfectly with our standard components, 1 needs a bracket modification for a column obstruction, and 1 has a cable routing conflict you need to solve. You document the 3 clean fits, design the bracket mod, and flag the cable routing issue for a field assessment next week. After lunch you're on a call with a vendor reviewing first samples against your spec - checking dimensions and material before approving a production run. Later you're updating your milestone tracker because a funding window shifted and two designs need to accelerate. You Slack the deployment engineer to confirm the updated timeline works for their site schedule. Before you leave, you check in with your peer engineer on a shared component that both of your designs use - confirming you're both specifying the same version.
