Basic Purpose

Responsible for maintaining systems and their associated operating systems for computer applications. Conducts analysis, creates system specifications, develops, tests and implements operating systems. Utilizes existing or new technology in the automation of processes. Evaluates software packages and provides recommendations to management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Acts as the top expert operational support analyst of the Windows or UNIX computing environment. Responsibilities include hardware installations, upgrades, operating systems and application software installations and upgrades, backup and recovery administration, maintaining users and peripheral equipment, troubleshooting system and application issues.

Performs research and makes recommendations for network software and hardware.

Provides complex technical recommendations for information systems operations network environments. Implements modifications to increase system capacity. Compiles records and reports concerning production, machine operations and maintenance. May advise on workflow plans, methods and procedures analysis. Analyzes the results of performance and systems management software and recommends changes to improve processing and utilization.

Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Interfaces with the user community to understand their security needs and implements procedures to accommodate them. Conducts accurate evaluation of the level of security required.

Monitors and responds to complex technical control facility hardware and software problems using a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques. Provides primary interface with vendor support service groups or provides internal analysis and support to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.

Provides guidance and training for less experienced technicians.

Provides documentation for the support of information technology processes and procedures.

Develops programs to support application and system operations.

Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Provides accurate input into the budget process and contribute to meeting the actual targets.

Compliance with industry and corporate technology standards.

Emphasis on identification and fulfillment of customer requirements.

Participates on teams that result in contribution to achievement of team goals and objectives.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Qualifications

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related technical field from an accredited school and 6+ years of directly related technical experiences or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Four years of additional related, progressive work experiences would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrates technical knowledge in Windows or UNIX operating systems and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.

Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company.

Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory completion of responsibilities; enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training.
