This position ensures that remotely monitored gas system operating parameters, gate station measurement, and remote usage monitoring remain continuously available to Central Gas Control and to downstream billing and operations functions.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Supervise the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of SCADA field equipment at South region monitored sites and gate stations, ensuring analog signals and remotely controllable facilities remain available to Central Gas Control for pressure support and supply balancing.

  • Develop and manage capital and O&M budgets for South region telemetry and instrumentation work, and participate in the design and planning of all new and modified SCADA sites in coordination with Area Engineers and project stakeholders.
  • Track and analyze equipment failures and root causes, and maintain spare parts and equipment inventory at levels sufficient to keep telemetry and SCADA systems operating efficiently.
  • Supervise the installation and maintenance of Metretek field units that remotely monitor gas usage at commercial and industrial transportation customer metering sites, and evaluate emerging telemetry technologies for implementation into the UGI distribution system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of A/C and D/C electrical theory, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electronic and computerized equipment and systems in the field.
  • Solid background in control theory and fundamentals, gas measurement and regulation, remote communications, gas quality measurement and monitoring, and gas odorization practices.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, federal and state gas safety regulations, and applicable company policies and procedures governing SCADA, telemetry, and gate station facilities.
  • Supervisory and leadership skills, including employee training, development, and evaluation, and the ability to direct a geographically dispersed technical crew operating under an on call rotation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills used in planning and collaborating on projects and initiatives, writing procedures and proposals, and evaluating new technologies for implementation into the UGI distribution system.

Education & Experience:
  • College degree in a technical field, or college degree in a business field with significant position related technical field experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in telemetry, SCADA, instrumentation, electronics, or gas measurement, including prior supervisory or crew lead experience.
  • Valid driver's license required for travel to field locations.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA host systems, RTUs, electronic volume correctors, and remote communications platforms.
