Full Job Description

GFT is seeking experienced Sr. Substation Project Engineer (Supervisor) to join our expanding Power Group. If you are in Chicago, IL, Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte, NC, St. Louis, MO, Marlton, NJ, Roanoke, VA, or Monroeville, PA this position would be Hybrid. However, for the right candidate, this would be a remote position.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

Independently applies advanced theories, concepts, and principles of engineering to resolve crucial issues associated with the Substation Physical engineering deliverables and unique conditions within theBusiness Line. Serves as atechnical specialist in analyzingthe componentsofelectricalprojects,establishing design criteria and executing designs.Supervises a staff of engineers and designers,managesclients and related standards, and may manage projects.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Participates in the development of project design concepts and criteria and researcheslarge or complex project elements
  • Has responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinatinglarge or complexengineering assignments
    • Lead the development of project design documents, criteria, equipment specifications, and construction support
  • Act as technical specialist in the development of proposals
  • Prepare calculations & studies associated with the Physical scope of the project including Grounding Studies, Lighting Protection/Shielding Studies, Thermal Ampacity Calculations and others as needed Prepare associated reports and findings to present to the client.
  • Coordinate with associated disciplines within the technical project team (10+ people) including Protection & Control, Civil Geotechnical, Civil Structural, and Transmission Line Engineering.
  • May act in the capacity of Project Manager, Client Manager or Proposal Manager
  • As the technical expert, provide Quality Assurance / Quality Control reviews
  • Supervise a staff ofengineers, designers, and other technical specialistsincluding, but not limited to the following responsibilities:
    • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering team members
    • Actively mentor and develop team members through formal reviews and informal real-time feedback
    • Maintain a high-level understanding of all projects/tasks assigned to team members, including major blockers, risks, and project health
    • Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, and PTO requests
    • Complete interim and end-of-year performance reviews for all direct reports
    • Ensuring overall sense of team unity and direction towards company culture and values
  • Responsible for working closely with clients for client satisfaction as well as business development purposes

What you will bring to our firm:

Education and Licensing requirements

  • BS in Engineering
  • Master27s Degree in Electrical Engineer preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • 10+years of applicable experiencein the utility sector
  • Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Professional experience in conducting Substation Studies and Calculations including Grounding Studies or Shielding Studies in advanced software applications (such as SKMPower Tools, ETAP,CDEGS, Aspen, WinIGS).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to lead client presentations
  • Prior supervision of staff

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is 107,000-$165,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
