Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for leading key close and control activities, including complex general ledger reconciliations, month-end accruals and other journal entries, intercompany accounting, fixed asset and intangible asset accounting, and inventory-related accounting support. This role ensures timely, accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls over balance sheet accounts, and serves as a subject matter resource for travel/expense policy administration and select operational accounting processes. The Senior Staff Accountant also reviews work prepared by others, mentors team members, and drives continuous improvement in accounting processes and systems.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and post journal entries for operational and financial activity, including month-end accruals, deferrals, intercompany transactions, reclassifications, and other recurring and non-routine entries as needed.
  • Own and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and appropriate supporting documentation; investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Manage intercompany accounting processes, including reconciliation of intercompany schedules, resolving variances with cross-functional/internal stakeholders, and ensuring proper eliminations and period-end cutoffs.
  • Maintain fixed asset and intangible asset accounting, including roll-forwards, fixed asset register maintenance, capitalization/disposal activity, depreciation/amortization calculations, and related journal entries.
  • Support inventory accounting activities as applicable, including tracking, reconciliation, stock provision and analysis of inventory-related accounts and movements.
  • Prepare and file monthly state sales and use tax returns by compiling detailed sales transaction worksheets to calculate tax due; initiate and track tax payments; and perform monthly reconciliations of the sales and use tax payable account.
  • Administer and support travel and expense processes, including oversight of the online travel portal and expense reporting tools; ensure compliance with company policy and recommend policy/process enhancements.
  • Review supporting schedules for sales commissions and prepare or review related journal entries to record costs in accordance with policy and accounting guidance.
  • Review payroll activity reports prepared by others and prepare or review journal entries to properly record payroll-related expenses and liabilities.
  • Serve as a backup/secondary resource for select finance operations (e.g., online banking activities, accounts payable support, sales/use tax processes), ensuring continuity of critical workflows.
  • Review and approve accounting schedules and journal entries prepared by other team members, providing feedback to strengthen accuracy, documentation standards, and consistency.
  • Mentor and support other finance team members; assist with training, knowledge transfer, and cross-functional collaboration as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for process, workflow, and system improvements; recommend and support implementation of enhancements to increase efficiency, standardization, and controls.
  • Coordinate and respond to audit and tax consultant requests by preparing support, explaining account activity, and ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with prior progressive accounting experience required.
  • Experience in a gaming or hospitality gaming environment preferred.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel/spreadsheet capabilities; experienced with accounting/ERP systems.
  • Microsoft Access experience preferred.
  • Pronto (or similar ERP) system experience preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet recurring deadlines.
  • Strong prioritization, time management, and follow-through skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to changing business needs.
