Full Job Description

What You'll Do

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of automated testing solutions that support the quality and reliability of critical trading applications. You will work closely with developers, product owners, and fellow quality engineers to ensure quality is integrated throughout the software development lifecycle.

In this role, you will participate in the transition from a low-code automation solution to a modern code-based framework using Java and Selenium. You will help enhance existing automation capabilities, develop reusable test assets, and support continuous testing practices that improve efficiency and delivery quality.

This is an opportunity to work on a highly visible platform while growing your automation engineering skills and contributing to solutions that support Schwab's core trading operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain UI and API test automation using Java, Selenium, and related tools.
  • Execute automation strategies for web services, middleware, and UI testing.
  • Build and enhance automated test suites to support regression, smoke, and functional testing.
  • Support CI/CD testing practices and automation integration efforts.
  • Assist with test data management and data refresh activities.
  • Collaborate with developers and product teams to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Participate as the SDET within an Agile scrum team.
  • Maintain test cases, test results, and automation code using JIRA, Bitbucket, and other Atlassian tools.
  • Support continuous testing activities using Bamboo and related technologies.
  • Contribute to high-quality delivery across sprints and releases.
  • Participate in BDD testing practices using Gherkin, Ruby, and Cucumber.
What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
  • 4+ years of software testing and test automation experience in Agile environments.
  • Experience developing automated test solutions using Selenium and REST Assured.
  • Experience with test execution, troubleshooting, and automation maintenance.
  • Experience working with source control and collaborative development practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing UI and API automation solutions.
  • Strong understanding of Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Experience with Selenium, SoapUI, Maven, REST Assured, and related testing tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies such as PCF or GCP.
  • Experience with MongoDB and Git-based source control systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with test data management practices.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) concepts in support of application testing.
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams.
