Full Job Description
The Senior Software Integration Engineer will support our Secure Integrated Solutions (SIS) team in deploying and configuring security solutions that facilitate protection of the nation's critical infrastructure. The individual will have a strong background in software engineering and systems integration, with a proven track record of successfully integrating complex systems across the full project lifecycle. This role requires a strategic thinker who drives integration initiatives, leads cross-functional coordination, and takes end-to-end ownership of technical outcomes on assigned projects.

This is a highly autonomous role suited to engineers who are comfortable operating in unstructured environments - defining a path forward when no documented procedure exists, applying first-principles engineering thinking to novel integration challenges, and making sound technical decisions without waiting for step-by-step direction. Candidates who thrive in this role combine rigorous adherence to the SIS Standard Engineering Process (TSSEP) with the engineering judgment to recognize when a situation demands more than process compliance alone.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & CORE FUNCTIONS

Project Leadership & Process Ownership

  • Execute assigned tasks throughout the entire project lifecycle in accordance with the TSSEP, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and release activities.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering Leads (PEL) and team members while demonstrating the initiative and problem-solving ability to drive progress without requiring detailed direction.
  • Take ownership of assigned process areas end-to-end, including identifying risks, raising issues proactively, and developing solutions in coordination with the PEL and Software Integration Engineers.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by consistently delivering high-quality interactions that drive trust, satisfaction, and long-term partnership, while setting a standard for customer engagement across projects

Requirements & Design

  • Review and contribute to project Design Change Forms (DCFs) and Change Requests (CRs) within the software discipline, ensuring requirements are clearly understood before implementation begins.
  • Identify impacts that software design changes will have on other parts of the system and flag associated risks to the PEL.
  • Own Advanced Information Management (AIM) configuration planning for the project per the Software Integration Preliminary Design Review-Critical Design Review (PDR-CDR) work instruction.
  • Lead and contribute to discipline design reviews (PDR, CDR), ensuring software design changes meet customer requirements while evaluating implementation impacts across the system.
  • Participate in internal design reviews including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR), contributing discipline-specific input.

Implementation

  • Implement software changes in accordance with approved DCFs, escalating and documenting any necessary design deviations with PEL approval.
  • Own software solution deployment and configuration on assigned projects, adhering to approved system build plans and integration schedules.
  • Execute system configuration activities, ensuring database architecture, data-driven graphics, and software components align with project specifications and platform standards.

Testing & Verification

  • Support functional testing, integration testing, Pre-FAT, and FAT activities, including investigation and resolution of identified issues.
  • Support Test Readiness Review (TRR) and Release Readiness Review (RRR), ensuring the project is technically ready for each gate.
  • Perform release build generation and execute the installation activities required to deploy the system into the operational environment.
  • Review Site Acceptance Test (SAT) results and support resolution of post-deployment defects.

Configuration Management & Technical Review Board (TRB)

  • Prepare CRs accurately, ensuring proper documentation of changes and timely processing.
  • Actively participate in Technical Review Board (TRB) meetings, contributing to the technical evaluation and disposition of proposed changes.

Milestone Reviews

  • Prepare and own discipline-specific input for all project milestone reviews.

Customer & Team Collaboration

  • Establish effective working relationships with project team members and cross-functional departments.
  • Establish and maintain direct working relationships with external customers, with appropriate coordination with the management team.
  • Participate in onsite installation, commissioning, and transition activities on assigned projects.

Other

  • Demonstrate a strong passion for learning by actively acquiring and continually deepening knowledge of SIS Security Systems products, services, and platform capabilities.
  • 25% travel required.
  • This is a full-time, in-office position.
  • Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor's degree in STEM is preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
    • Engineering mindset: combines adherence to established procedures with root cause analysis and the development and testing of working theories to address integration challenges. Comfortable operating in situations where the answer is not predefined and where engineering judgment must substitute for documented procedure.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose and resolve issues that cross discipline boundaries.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required to interface with vendors and customers (internal and external).
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a cross-functional environment - specifically, the ability to self-direct in unstructured situations, determine a logical path forward without detailed instructions, and apply sound engineering judgment when integrating systems for which no prior documentation or precedent exists.
    • The desire to learn new technologies and apply them to current and future projects.
    • Experience in systems integration, including all phases of the software/system development life cycle.
    • Demonstrated experience working within structured engineering processes, including requirements traceability, configuration management, and formal design review cycles.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft O365 applications, network architecture (including Cisco IOS), and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).

  • Preferred
    • Experience in application design, implementation, and installation of real-time computer-based process control systems.
    • Familiarity with C/C++ or C#, experience with Visual Studio (2012/2019), Crystal Reports, and version control tools such as Git.
    • Microsoft Active Directory.
    • Installation and configuration of networking devices.
    • Installation and configuration of video surveillance systems.
    • Software development life cycle experience, including Waterfall, Incremental, and Agile methodologies.
    • Software configuration management tools and practices.
