Position Summary (Why this role matters):

The Team Lead is responsible for leading the day-to-day operating rhythm of empowered software team(s). This role combines Product Owner and Scrum Master responsibilities - translating product priorities into a clear, actionable team backlog while facilitating agile ceremonies, removing process blockers, tracking team execution health, and driving continuous improvement.

The Team Lead partners closely with Functional Managers and Product Managers to ensure the team is working on the highest-value priorities, and with the Dev Lead to ensure technical execution is well-coordinated, predictable, and aligned with engineering quality standards.

Key Responsibilities (What you'll do):
  • Own and maintain the team backlog in partnership with the Product Manager, translating priorities and customer needs into clear, actionable backlog items.
  • Facilitate the team's agile ceremonies (sprint planning, refinement, standups, reviews, retrospectives) and ensure sprint goals are clear, realistic, and aligned with priorities.
  • Monitor sprint progress and help the team identify risks, blockers, and scope concerns early, and ensure retrospective actions are tracked and followed through.
  • Track team execution metrics such as sprint predictability, backlog readiness, throughput, carryover, blockers, and cycle time, to drive continuous improvement in team flow and delivery effectiveness.
  • Maintain backlog hygiene, including prioritization, refinement, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and traceability as needed.
  • Support the team in balancing delivery commitments with quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with the Software Project Manager on milestones, dependencies, risks, and project-level commitments.
  • Coordinate with the Dev Lead on technical sequencing, delivery risks, engineering capacity, and quality concerns.
  • Coordinate with the Functional Manager when team capacity, skills, or people-related issues affect delivery.
  • Maintain stakeholder visibility into team progress, risks, and blockers.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, accountability, and continuous learning, and help the team improve how it works.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • 5-8 years of experience in software development or delivery roles.
  • Significant experience as a Software Engineer, Scrum Master, or Product Owner.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as an experienced technical contributor without formal people-management authority, influencing through expertise and relationships.
  • Deep familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or hybrid approaches) and hands-on experience facilitating agile ceremonies.
  • Strong backlog management skills, including refinement, prioritization frameworks, and writing clear acceptance criteria.
  • Experience partnering with Product Managers, Dev Leads, Architects, and Project Managers.
  • Comfortable using execution metrics (predictability, throughput, cycle time, carryover) to drive improvement.
  • Experience in medical device, healthcare technology, or another regulated software environment preferred.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM, CSP-SM), Product Owner (CSPO), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees. This includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and more.
