What We BuildAt Synctera, engineers do more than maintain existing systems. They help design and build new platform capabilities that directly shape how our products work and how the company scales.
Our teams are small, which means senior engineers have real ownership: defining approaches, making technical tradeoffs, shipping production code, and improving systems over time. You can move quickly from idea to production, and your decisions have visible impact on both the product and the platform.
This role is a fit for someone who wants to build in a real-world, high-stakes environment: backend systems that need to be reliable, secure, scalable, and auditable because they support financial compliance and banking operations.
What We're Looking ForWe're looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Cable team and build core platform capabilities in Go. You'll build new features and products that automate financial compliance and banking operations at scale, and design major components across our stack where data privacy, auditability, and large-scale bank data all matter.
Recent projects senior engineers have led include:
- A new auth and SSO stack
- A new notifications system
- A major re-architecture of our data pipeline
- A customer-facing AI feature that extracts structured signals from unstructured compliance documents
What We Build WithOur backend services are primarily written in Go. Our frontend is React with TypeScript. We run on Google Cloud Platform and commonly work with Postgres, Redis, Pub/Sub, Kubernetes, Cloud Run, Terraform, and OpenAPI-based service contracts.
What You'll Do- Build, ship, and operate backend services in Go for production use cases with real reliability and correctness requirements.
- Design systems that process high-volume, event-driven data with clear audit trails and reproducible behavior.
- Extend and improve existing platform capabilities without adding unnecessary complexity.
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to turn ambiguous financial-services problems into concrete technical solutions.
- Build customer-facing AI features that apply LLMs and ML models to real compliance problems, with attention to evaluation, latency, cost, and failure handling in production.
- Help raise engineering quality through strong technical judgment, mentoring, and pragmatic decision-making.
What You'll Bring- 6+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
- Proven experience building and operating production backend systems in Go
- Solid hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database in production
- Experience designing or maintaining event-driven or data-intensive systems
- Experience working on systems where correctness, auditability, and reproducibility matter
- Experience shipping at least one customer-facing AI feature to production, or directly owning a production AI workflow with real users and measurable outcomes
- Comfort working on a small team with broad ownership and high expectations for technical judgment
Nice to HaveWe'd be especially excited if you also bring any of the following:
- Experience in fintech, banking, compliance, risk, payments, or BaaS.
- Experience with analytical data stores such as BigQuery, ClickHouse, or Snowflake.
- Familiarity with dbt, Ent, Connect RPC, Protocol Buffers, Pulumi-managed GKE deployments, GitLab APIs, or Google Cloud APIs.
- Experience on a fast-moving early-stage engineering team.
- Preference for being based in, or open to spending regular time in, the San Francisco Bay Area for in-person collaboration.
Before You ApplyWe care much more about concrete experience than polished language. In the application, please answer briefly and specifically using examples from work you personally did. Generic or highly polished answers that do not include details about systems, constraints, tradeoffs, or outcomes are less helpful than plain, direct answers.
