ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer with deep expertise in Autodesk Platform Services (APS) Viewer and/or web graphics technologies to help develop advanced, browser-based CAD and BIM visualization tools. In this role, you will own the frontend customization and extension of the APS Viewer, building professional-grade workflows on top of complex design and construction data rendered directly in the browser.
You will focus on extending, optimizing, and integrating visualization capabilities to support domain-specific CAD and BIM use cases while ensuring high performance, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead frontend development efforts centered around Autodesk Platform Services (APS) Viewer.
- Design, develop, and maintain custom APS Viewer extensions supporting CAD and BIM workflows.
- Build advanced visualization capabilities, including model selection, isolation, sectioning, measurement, markup, model comparison, and related user interactions.
- Customize rendering behavior, interaction patterns, and user interface overlays using WebGL, SVG, JavaScript, and related technologies.
- Develop and extend three.js-based visualization capabilities within and around the APS Viewer ecosystem.
- Integrate viewer-based experiences with backend services supporting model data, metadata, and business workflows.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, UX Design, and backend engineering teams to design intuitive, high-quality user experiences.
- Optimize rendering performance, responsiveness, and usability for large-scale models and complex datasets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve visualization, rendering, and interaction-related issues across supported browsers and environments.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to frontend development best practices, code quality standards, and technical design reviews.
- Contribute to architectural discussions related to frontend visualization, graphics rendering, and user experience design.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Significant hands-on experience developing web-based graphics applications using technologies such as WebGL, SVG, and three.js.
- Strong expertise in JavaScript and modern frontend development practices.
- Solid understanding of browser-based rendering concepts and graphics programming fundamentals.
- Experience building complex, graphics-intensive web applications.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize performance, scalability, and usability for large datasets and visualization workloads.
- Experience integrating frontend applications with backend APIs and services.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Significant hands-on experience with Autodesk Platform Services (APS) Viewer, including development of custom Viewer extensions.
- Experience with three.js or similar WebGL frameworks.
- Experience with GLSL, shaders, or advanced rendering techniques.
- Proficiency with modern frontend frameworks and tooling, including React or similar technologies.
- Experience integrating APS services beyond the Viewer, including Model Derivative and Data Management APIs.
- Experience supporting cloud-based or SaaS software platforms.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing technical leadership within engineering teams.
TRAVEL- Up to 10% travel for team collaboration, customer engagements, workshops, conferences, and business needs.
NICE TO HAVE- Experience working with BIM-specific workflows and AEC-focused visualization solutions.
- Strong foundation in 3D mathematics, geometry, and spatial reasoning.
- Experience implementing custom picking, hit testing, overlays, or advanced interaction models within visualization environments.
- Familiarity with browser-based performance profiling, GPU debugging, and rendering optimization techniques.
- Background in architecture, engineering, construction, or related design software industries.
COMPENSATION AND WELL-BEINGThe annual base salary range for this full-time position is $155,000-$170,000 (less applicable taxes). The actual annual base salary offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, training, and experience. In addition to an annual base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus target. This is a discretionary bonus awarded based on company and individual goal achievement.
