Job Details:

The Senior Sensory Scientist I leads sensory and consumer research for renovation and innovation initiatives within brands and/or categories and partners with manager to lead the renovation strategy across Tyson retail brands. This role partners cross-functionally to translate consumer and product insights into successful launches.

This role will guide products from early sensory exploration through validation, ensuring innovation and flagship products meet consumer expectations while identifying opportunities to attract new consumers. The role also drives continuous improvement in research approaches and influences key business decisions through strong collaboration with R&D, Marketing, Analytics, and Consumer Insights teams.

Location:Springdale, Arkansas (Greater NWA) ***Relocation support may be provided for those candidates that qualify based on the Tyson Relocation Policy.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead sensory consumer learning agenda for both strategic & tactical initiatives; giving your perspective on how projects will impact the business long term
  • Leverage your experience to effectively balance hybrid research approaches with existing knowledge and deep understanding of key sensory attributes to quickly deliver actionable guidance for R&D
  • Creatively identify renovation opportunity areas for growth by effectively using syndicated research and trend data, primary market research and competitive intelligence
  • Leader of the Flagship Product Performance Program: Develop and implement renovation strategies reflecting overall corporate and business unit goals with meaningful consumer positioning vs competition that effectively communicates product advantages to consumers.
  • Interact with the leadership team, sharing key insights and offering advice on product-related challenges
  • Develop & maintain strategic partnerships with Product Development, Consumer Insights, Marketing, Analytics, Culinary, Packaging, Quality and External Research Vendors
  • Learn and grow, as you stretch yourself to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement to evolve the sensory function and your personal development
  • Effectively manage the sensory budget; address and prioritize immediate and forward-looking strategic needs with manager support
  • Stay up-to-date on new research techniques through conferences, research materials and industry experts; apply methods new to Tyson, as appropriate, through a 'test and learn' approach


Education & Work Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Sensory, Food Science, Psychology or related field; M.S., Ph.D. or Sensory Certification is preferred. Proficient in food or meat science. 4+ years of relevant and practical work experience is required with a Bachelor's degree; 2+ years of relevant and practical work experience is required with a Master's degree. Otherwise, 10+ years of relevant and practical work experience is required.

Supervisory & Travel:
This role does not have direct reports. Experience managing and/or mentoring junior team members a plus. Travel up to 25%.
