Job Description:

This role is part of the Pet Nutrition North America R&D team and is key in ensuring MARS delivers products of high and consistent quality and at a competitive cost. The role is designed to ensure safety of our ingredients which can be utilized across a large scale product portfolio and to ensure the functionality of these new ingredients for the intended purpose.

  • 2-5 years R&D experience with established technical ingredient expertise
  • Understanding of ingredients including safety and quality attributes, in the food/pet food industry
  • Up to 10% travel required

  • MS or PhD in Biological or Food Sciences or equivalent


What will be your key responsibilities?
  • Collaborating with industry suppliers and commercial buyers to identify ingredients that can meet the needs for product design
  • Identification of new ingredient opportunities to deliver cost savings to the business while maintaining or improving product quality
  • Assessing new ingredients for known hazards and ensuring there are controls implemented to minimize the risk of those hazards
  • Utilize understanding and knowledge linked to the raw material ingredient portfolio across all relevant applications and be key technical point of contact within business
  • Leverage their knowledge of ingredients to help set strategy and identify ways to enhance key product attributes and potential savings
  • Responsible for assessing and managing current ingredient in the portfolio to ensure production of high quality, nutritious products
  • Ensure new ingredient opportunities are aligned with relevant stakeholders within the R&D function
  • Support in alignment and management of stakeholders external to R&D
  • Influences and/or develops technical strategies and best practices
  • Responsible for drafting ingredient Specifications
