Responsibilities
The Sr. Renewal Underwriter is focused on achieving underwriting excellence, ensuring profitability, and maintaining alignment with our strategic portfolio objectives. Responsible for the profitability, growth and/or retention of assigned book of business and assigned renewal underwriters. Evaluate and process insurance renewals, demonstrate functional technical knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, relevant systems and competition in the marketplace. Manage relationships with assigned producers to manage submission, quote and bind activity and deliver on service commitments established by the designated Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Manage agency relationships which includes creating, driving and execution of strategies for renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.)
- Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through application of the appropriate level of underwriting analysis based on risk complexity to accept, decline, modify, or rate and quote accounts.
- Underwrite and skillfully negotiate accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
- Underwrites within individual authority level.
- Review and assess renewal applications to determine the risk and eligibility of clients
- Generate quote proposals and deliver to producers; negotiate final terms leading to binding.
- Utilize underwriting guidelines and actuarial data to assess risk levels. Make recommendations on coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Ensure timely processing of renewal policies. Prepare policy documents, endorsements, and provide instructions for policy issuance.
- Handle endorsement requests to ensure timely processing.
- Work closely with other underwriters, claims adjusters, and risk management teams to ensure comprehensive coverage solutions for clients.
- Adhere to all regulatory and compliance requirements. Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Assist and/or mentor other members of the department including underwriters, assistant underwriters, and Operations team members as warranted.
May perform other functions as assigned.
Education Requirement
Four-year college degree or equivalent relevant experience.
Qualifications: Include necessary skills/experience and core competencies required
- Minimum of 7 years of multi-line underwriting experience, preferably in Human Services
- Knowledge of insurance rating, structure, forms, and coverages.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills to include the ability to affirmatively close sales.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Strong PC and keyboarding skills, including working with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required
