Position Summary:Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Sr Project Manager to join the mission critical team in Lenexa, Kansas or Washington, D.C.
The Sr. Project Manager plays a senior leadership role in bringing the most complex and strategically significant construction projects to life at Henderson Building Solutions. In addition to independently managing the company's largest and most complex projects, the Sr. Project Manager leads and develops a team of project managers and project engineers, owns business development efforts, and shapes the standards and best practices that guide how the project management team works. Drawing on extensive expertise and seasoned judgment, this role holds full financial responsibility, anticipates and resolves the most difficult challenges, and serves as a senior point of leadership for clients, teams, and the broader organization.
For this role, that leadership plays out in one of the fastest growing markets in construction: data centers. Mission critical facilities cannot go down, so you will coordinate field activities with facilities and owners to keep live operations running without interruption and bring an uptime-first mindset to every phase from assessment through turnover. You'll do it with the backing of a 100% employee owned company where the projects you deliver build value you share in.
Project assignments may vary based on business needs and may require experience within specific facility types, construction environments, and technical disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:- Directs the overall management of construction projects.
- Plans and sets project objectives, goals, and deadlines.
- Selects appropriate construction methods and strategies.
- Schedules and coordinates processes so that projects meet design specifications.
- Reports on status and progress of project and budget matters to clients.
- Facilitates the execution of the project installation phase.
- Produces/acquires and maintains all required project documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Prepares layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
- Makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems and/or equipment and evaluates construction products for their application.
- Plans logistical aspects of project execution so that plans can be properly incorporated into the project documents.
- Assists in the assembly and distribution of equipment and construction bid packages.
- Ensures a safe and efficient work environment.
- Verifies contractors are meeting and practicing all required OSHA and industry approved safety standards.
- Coordinates with facility and the contractor to ensure facility operations are not interrupted.
- Obtains required licenses/permits, confers with city or county inspectors, and ensures compliance of legal requirements, company regulations, and building and safety codes.
- Assists in the development of accurate budgets for all projects and clients that reflect all costs associated with construction.
- Manages the planning, materials, building, and budget of construction projects.
- Negotiates and provides cost estimates for construction work and associated change orders.
- Protects the best interest of the client and preserves/enhances the reputation and bottom line of the company.
- Assists with business development activities by promoting Henderson to existing and potential clients.
- Participates in client, company and industry events.
- Grows personal network by building relationships with clients and industry professionals.
Required Qualifications:- Ten (10) or greater years of relevant experience required in construction and the design of building systems.
- Project management, estimating, field installation, and installation supervision experience required.
- OSHA certifications required.
- Advanced project management skills.
- Technical expertise in primary fields of focus (mechanical and/or electrical) as well as familiarity with other related fields.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment and to recommend and analyze pragmatic solutions for clients.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards relating to the facilities in which we work.
- Possesses efficient communication skills.
- Proficient Microsoft Office skills specifically within Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project.
- Adapts to changing work environments, work priorities and organizational needs.
- Generates ideas for improvement, takes advantage of opportunities, suggests innovations.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of construction or engineering preferred. Common examples include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Engineering, and Construction Management. Years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of requisite education.
- Experience managing construction projects in data center, mission critical, or other live operational environments preferred.
- Experience with data center systems including critical power, cooling, and controls infrastructure.
- Experience managing projects for hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center clients preferred.
- Procore experience preferred.
Physical & Other Requirements:- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
