Position Summary

Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Sr Project Manager to join our team in Lenexa, Kansas.

A Sr Project Manager oversees complex construction and building systems projects from initial assessment and design through bidding, construction, and installation. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with client expectations and project objectives. The Sr Project Manager maintains full financial accountability for assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and cost management.

Working closely with clients, contractors, facility personnel, engineering partners, and internal teams, the Sr Project Manager coordinates all phases of project execution while minimizing operational disruptions and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. This individual serves as a trusted leader and problem solver, helping clients navigate complex project challenges while supporting business development efforts and contributing to the continued growth of Henderson Building Solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs the overall management of construction projects.
  • Plans and sets project objectives, goals, and deadlines.
  • Selects appropriate construction methods and strategies.
  • Schedules and coordinates processes so that projects meet design specifications.
  • Reports on status and progress of project and budget matters to clients.
  • Facilitates the execution of the project installation phase.
  • Produces/acquires and maintains all required project documentation
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems and/or equipment and evaluates construction products for their application.
  • Plans logistical aspects of project execution so that plans can be properly incorporated into the project documents.
  • Assists in the assembly and distribution of equipment and construction bid packages.
  • Ensures a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Verifies contractors are meeting and practicing all required OHSA and industry approved safety standards.
  • Coordinates with facility and the contractor to ensure facility operations are not interrupted.
  • Obtains required licenses/permits, confers with city or county inspectors, and ensures compliance of legal requirements, company regulations, and building and safety codes.
  • Assists in the development of accurate budgets for all projects and clients that reflect all costs associated with construction.
  • Manages the planning, materials, building, and budget of construction projects.
  • Negotiates and provides cost estimates for construction work and associated change orders.
  • Protects the best interest of the client and preserves/enhances the reputation and bottom line of the company.
  • Assists with business development activities by promoting Henderson to existing and potential clients.
  • Participates in client, company and industry events.
  • Grows personal network by building relationships with clients and industry professionals.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of construction or engineering preferred. Common examples include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Engineering, and Construction Management.
  • Years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of requisite education.
  • Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience in construction and the design of building systems required.
  • Project management, estimating, field installation, and installation supervision experience required.
  • OSHA certifications required.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Technical expertise in primary fields of focus (mechanical and/or electrical) as well as familiarity with other related fields.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and recommend and analyze pragmatic solutions for clients.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards relating to the facilities in which we work.
  • Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills, specifically within Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
  • Adapts to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs.
  • Generates ideas for improvement, takes advantage of opportunities, and suggests innovations.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing projects in Mission Critical facilities, including data centers and other high-availability environments.
  • Experience working in live or occupied critical environments where continuous operations must be maintained.
  • Design-build project delivery experience.
  • Experience managing complex MEP infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution systems, UPS systems, standby generators, cooling systems, and other critical data center infrastructure.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proven business development and client relationship management experience.


Physical & Work Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
