Primary Function of Position

You will become a member of the da Vinci® Multiport Global Product Management team helping to lead development and support multiple generations of system software platform solutions across their lifecycle. This is an individual contributor role and will report to a Group Product Manager. As an upstream strategic and software product management expert, you will work with cross-functional partners to guide successful product launches and provide strategic expertise throughout the product development and global launch phases. You will become a key development and design stage stakeholder for multiple projects and will be a global system portfolio expert helping to guide future portfolio strategy recommendations and budgeting.

Essential Job Duties

Responsibilities for this role will be heavily focused on discovering and translating customer and clinical insights into user needs and software product requirements, driving cross-functional alignment, and stewarding decisions through medical device design controls and the software development lifecycle with strong rigor and communication

In the first 12 months from start of employment, the essential job duties are:

• Customer Needs: Build a VOC engine spanning surgeons, OR staff, and admins; synthesizing into problem statements and user journeys. Define and maintain user needs, scenarios, and priority jobs-to-be-done for system software and the user experience.
• Requirements: Convert user needs into software product requirements (functional, performance, safety, usability, cybersecurity, service, and interoperability requirements) with rationale and acceptance criteria.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Build trusted partnerships with software engineering, clinical, human factors, UX and industrial design, and regulatory teams-becoming the recognized authority on system software direction. Drive human factors studies and incorporate findings into design iterations
• Clinical Grounding: Develop deep understanding of surgical workflows, surgeon ergonomics, and OR environment constraints through direct observation and physician engagement
• Trade offs: Make disciplined trade-off decisions between features, timeline, cost, and regulatory complexity. Develop final product definition considering customer needs, technical acumen, and business decisions (which may include I&A and other business units)
• System Integration: Ensure software subsystem requirements enable seamless integration with the system and broader platform architecture
• Roadmap Clarity: Establish clear prioritization frameworks and software development milestones that balance innovation ambition with regulatory and manufacturing realities

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated prior experience in essential job duties noted above

Required Education and Training

• Minimum Bachelors degree
• Minimum 4 years in a medical device role with 8 or more years cumulative professional experience

Working Conditions

• Travel requirements 25%, global travel required
• Portions of travel are required to be in a hospital operating room during live surgery. Must be able to attain hospital credentialing to access facilities

Preferred Skills and Experience

• MBA
• Product Management experience in Medical Device Industry
• Professional engineering experience in highly regulated industry (example med device) preferred in software development
• Applied AI/ML product experience
• UI/UX experience

It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
