You'll work at the intersection of mechanical systems and electrochemistry, partnering closely with R&D and test teams to run experiments, resolve process excursions, and troubleshoot formation equipment. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly and scope regularly expands.
Responsibilities:
- Own process engineering and technology transfer for pilot battery cell formation
- Design, build, and iterate on formation fixtures; apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure precision and repeatability
- Troubleshoot formation equipment hardware and software; drive root cause analysis on excursions and novel failure modes
- Lead cross-functional teams to implement process resolutions
- Collect, analyze, and report process data from database systems; develop data-driven insights to guide improvement projects
- Author and maintain standard operating procedures; train technicians on formation operations
- Communicate process status and findings clearly across technical and management audiences
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of engineering experience in electrochemical systems, battery manufacturing, or related electromechanical environments
- Solid understanding of manufacturing in at least one lithium-based cell chemistry, from electrode through formation
- Hands-on experience designing mechanical fixtures - proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD, with working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Experience operating and troubleshooting battery formation/cycling equipment (e.g., Arbin, MACCOR, NEWARE)
