Position Specific Description

The Technical Services Specialist - Auxiliary Power & Electric Utility Optimization plays a critical role within the Power Generation Division (PGD) Business Services organization, supporting how NextEra Energy manages cost, risk, and operational efficiency across one of the largest and most sophisticated renewable energy portfolios in the world. This role operates at the intersection of Operations, Engineering, Finance, and electric utilities, focusing on utility interactions that directly influence asset economics and long-term performance.

This is a highly analytical role focused on evaluating how PGD wind, solar, and energy storage assets interact with electric utilities. Core areas include auxiliary power strategy, retail versus net generation treatment, tariff interpretation, metering configurations, demand charges, and backfeed arrangements. These decisions carry material financial implications, and this role is responsible for developing analysis and recommendations that influence those outcomes.

Working closely with Operations, Business Management, Engineering, Accounting, Legal, Development, and external utility, the Specialist identifies inefficiencies, investigates billing discrepancies, and reduces utility related cost and risk. The role regularly encounters site-specific scenarios where precedent is limited, requiring strong problem solving, sound judgment and the ability to apply structured analysis in ambiguous situations.

A defining aspect of this role is translating complex utility tariffs, billing data, and contractual terms into clear, decision-ready insights. The Specialist prepares and presents analyses, recommendations, and risk assessments to PGD Stakeholders, including senior leaders and executive-level audiences, particularly where utility cost or auxiliary power assumptions materially impact project economics.

In addition to individual analyses, this role supports the development of repeatable processes, documentation, and analytical frameworks that enable consistency and scalability across the portfolio. The position balances through analysis with practical execution to ensure decisions are well-vetted without slowing execution.

This opportunity offers strong visibility, ownership of analysis and recommendations, and the ability to develop expertise at the intersection of power generation, utility economics, renewable operations. Success requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The ideal candidate brings analytical rigor, sound judgment, and the ability to influence outcomes across a matrixed organization. The ideal candidate would have the following:
  • Experience supporting large-scale energy, utility, infrastructure, or industrial operations, with exposure to electric utility billing, tariffs, metering, or auxiliary / station power concepts
  • Demonstrated experience using statistical programing for data analysis, automation, or validation (e.g., utility billing analysis, data reconciliation, or repeatable workflows)
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, structured analysis, and scenario-based modeling
  • Experience synthesizing quantitative analysis into executive-ready materials (PowerPoint, dashboards or similar tools)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Economics, or a related analytical discipline; Master's degree preferred
  • Ability to communicate risks, tradeoffs, and financial or operational impacts to senior stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to connect analysis to broader business outcomes
  • Background in renewable energy, power markets, utilities, or regulated infrastructure is a strong plus, but not required for the right candidate
