Full Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. Production Supervisor, 1st Shift to join our federal team at our York, PA Grantley plant location.
Johnson Controls Navy Systems (JCNS) designs and manufactures high-reliability chilled water A/C plants, refrigeration systems, and related equipment for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. All products are built in York, PA to strict military and customer specifications. The Sr. Production Supervisor leads a team of welding and fabrication trades responsible for producing large, complex A/C plant components. This role ensures team performance in safety, quality, cost, and delivery, while coordinating work across all shifts and supervising up to 30 employees.

Pay: $76,100 - $95,000 base salary. (Negotiable based on experience and qualifications)

As a Sr. Production Supervisor, you will:

  • Build strong relationships with employees to drive productivity and best practices.
  • Remove barriers, resolve conflicts, and promote a collaborative, team-first environment.
  • Work cross-functionally to support continuous improvement and meet plant goals.
  • Supports the development and standardize work practices to improve quality and reduce errors.
  • Monitor material non-conformances and variances; take action to strengthen fabrication processes.
  • Ensure adherence to work instructions and maintain proper 6s/housekeeping.
  • Champion a safety-first culture and enforce all safety procedures.
  • Coordinate daily/weekly production plans with department leaders.
  • Review backlog, prioritize at-risk orders, and work with production control on scheduling.
  • Provide training for new hires and ongoing training for all employees; maintain training records.
  • Enforce plant rules, policies, and procedures; address conflicts when needed.
  • Verify quality-readiness of units and confirm required documentation before inspection.
  • Assess staffing needs, participate in hiring, and support employee development.
  • Ensure on-time unit starts to meet shipping goals.
  • Maintain daily labor and attendance records.


Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide unionized manufacturing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and coaching abilities.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing preferred.
  • Welding knowledge desired; Navy welding standards NAVSEA 248/278.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in a union environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement manufacturing systems (6s, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma)
  • Knowledge of quality management systems ISO9001:2015 & ISO14001:2015).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experienced with Lean implementation
  • Experienced with supervising Union/Manufacturing employees (Up to 30 direct reports)

Preferred Education:
  • Associate degree required; 12 years of relevant experience with at least 4 years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; 8 years of relevant experience with at least 4 years in a supervisory role.
