The Role: Senior Manager, Strategic Finance & Special ProjectsThe Senior Manager, Strategic Finance & Special Projects is a dedicated individual contributor role within the Finance team, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The role provides rigorous financial analysis and business case support across a portfolio of high-priority strategic initiatives - including M&A evaluation, store network analysis, and growth strategy - enabling the CFO and senior leadership to make well-informed, timely decisions.
This net-new role is well-suited to someone analytically sharp and self-directed, with a track record in corporate development, FP&A, investment banking, or management consulting. The successful candidate will have meaningful exposure to the CFO, CEO, and senior leaders across the business, and will work across functions to gather inputs, pressure-test assumptions, and deliver clear, credible analysis.
What you'll be doing:M&A and Corporate Development- Support financial analysis, scenario modelling, and business case development for acquisitions, divestitures, and partnerships - including pharmacy acquisitions, partnership evaluations, and supply chain opportunities
- Assist in evaluating new and existing lines of business and geographies, contributing financial analysis to inform entry, exit, or investment recommendations
- Help structure and pressure-test deal assumptions, synergy estimates, and integration cost/benefit analyses
Strategic Projects & Business Case Development- Develop detailed business cases for strategic initiatives - sizing costs, benefits, investments, and risks across multiple scenarios to support decision-making
- Contribute to store network analysis - building models to support performance evaluation, profitability assessment, and growth optimization in collaboration with relevant teams
- Provide analytical support for opportunities across digital, customer, and commercial priorities - assessing financial feasibility and returns
- Help identify and size opportunities to strengthen Rexall's competitive positioning in retail pharmacy and adjacent health verticals
Financial Analysis & Modelling- Build clear, well-structured financial models with sensitivity analysis - translating data into insights that support executive decision-making
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude) and data platforms to work efficiently and surface relevant insights
- Bring intellectual curiosity and sound analytical judgment to projects, including making reasonable modelling assumptions independently
- Respond to CFO and senior management requests for ad hoc financial modelling, scenario analysis, and reporting
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Work closely with teams across Pharmacy, Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, Digital, Real Estate, and Supply Chain to gather inputs and align on assumptions
- Prepare clear, well-organized materials and analyses that enable senior leaders to make informed decisions
- Build effective working relationships across the organization; communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders at all levels
- Maintain strict confidentiality in handling sensitive strategic and financial information
Knowledge, skills and experience:- 5-8 years of experience in corporate development, FP&A, investment banking, management consulting, or a related strategic finance role
- Demonstrated experience building end-to-end business cases and financial models independently
- Familiarity with enterprise tools such as ERP systems, cloud-based databases, and supply chain planning platforms is considered a strong asset; we value candidates who demonstrate comfort learning and navigating complex systems
- Advanced financial modelling and analytical skills - comfortable building models from scratch, running sensitivity analysis, and stress-testing assumptions
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
- Hands-on experience with generative AI tools such as Claude to accelerate research, synthesis, and analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills - able to distill complexity into clear, concise materials for senior audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and work effectively across functions and levels of seniority
- High degree of intellectual curiosity, self-direction, and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to time-sensitive requests with professionalism
- Knowledge of retail, consumer, or health sector dynamics is a meaningful asset; pharmacy experience is a plus but not required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is an asset but not required
