Essential Function:

As the Senior Manager of the Crystal Growing and Shaping operations you will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to team of highly skilled leaders. This person will formulate and recommend policies and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation. They will also direct activities so that products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives and enforce standards and procedures. The Senior Manager will communicate information to Crystal Growing staff and parent company as appropriate and manages any construction related and expansion projects. The CZ and Shaping department play a key role internal to Silfex operations as the supplier of material to the rest of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages manufacturing to ensure that products are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ensures orders are manufactured according to specifications and quality standards are met. Ensures compliance with internal controls by auditing and verifying records, reports, and practices.
  • Ensures standards for product quality, equipment and operator performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production. Ensures fixed assets are preserved. Will have signing authority level to approve purchases. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.
  • Advises Sr. Director of Operations on labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, and training. Ensures supervisors and managers are adhering to company policy and administering practices in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Oversees the organization of the production schedule by studying order specifications, current schedule, and availability of equipment, materials, and employees. Resolves production scheduling problems by collecting and analyzing information and coordinating solutions.
  • Ensures that departments support/follow the Company Values, Vision, & Mission.
  • Ensures that departments follow POR's and obtain the proper engineering support to determine if a requested change falls within POR requirements.
  • Ensures that departments use Engineering Test Plans for any proposed changes.
  • Eligible to receive deemed exports of EAR or ITAR controlled technology.
  • Maintains adequate staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Maintains staff results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Resolves conflict among team members. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Works with accounting in setting and determining operating budgets, developing variance targets, and inventory plans.
  • Ensures that company set operating metrics are visible and are used as a tool to improve operations.
  • Drive and manage improvement effort such as 6S and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Supports both plant locations.
  • Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
  • Carry out special projects and all other additional duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Manufacturing Manager, EHS Manager, and/ or Director of Manufacturing.
  • Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 6S.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports with a basic understanding of accounting principles, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, as well as ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
