We are seeking a Sr. Finance Manager to play a critical role in guiding financial performance, driving business insights, and influencing key decisions at our Stevenson, Alabama location. How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:
- The Sr. Finance Manager oversees the finance operations of the mill that includes the adequacy and adherence to control systems, mill level accounting and processing, business analytics and research, capital planning and analysis, product costing and profitability analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting as well as management and development of a team.
- The role is expected to participate in decision-making that includes both financial and operational viewpoints.
- Engage and participate with Mill leadership and other stakeholders to elevate Mill profitability by identifying and analyzing opportunities, helping to prioritize, leading and guiding Mill teams and building a winning culture.
- Lead and serve on mill projects, not exclusive to finance and accounting.
- Develop and maintain financial mill-level reporting linked to operational metrics that promote the identification of improvement ideas.
- Support and provide Division and Corporate reporting as well.
- Manage the monthly financial closing and meet deadlines. Work can include ensuring proper cut-offs, preparing journal entries, reconciling the balance sheet, costing inventory and analyzing the income statement.
- Prepare accurate forecasts and budgets while analyzing and understanding improvement or mitigation opportunities.
- Build on an audit-ready mentality where compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and WestRock controls and policies is constant and work with internal and external auditors and address their requests.
- Resolve processing exceptions and determine root causes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of centralized functions.
- Strong involvement with capital projects, including the development of the financial benefits of projects as well as tracking and auditing the results.
- Serve on software implementation or process improvement teams.
- Handle analysis requests from Division, Segment or Corporate teams.
- Ultimately working to establish proper and stable accounting, accurate and efficient reporting, and to partner with the business to elevate its performance.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (MBA, CPA, or CMA is preferred).
- 8+ years of experience and a track record success in finance or accounting.
- Manufacturing/Process experience preferred.
- Controller type capacity preferred as well.
- Self-starter and independent thinker with strong technical and financial experience.
- Ability to work independently, lead a team and balance routine responsibilities with ad hoc requests.
- Robust problem-solving skills and analytical thinking with the ability to scale accuracy appropriate to the circumstance.
- A track record of driving sustainable results, e.g. EBITDA growth, margin expansion and cash flow.
- Interpersonal skills with the desire and ability to collaborate in a team environment and build rapport across functions.
- Capability to partner with mill leadership and other operating and maintenance groups.
- Ability to drive change through and with an organization as well as implement processes.
- Comfort with ambiguity and dynamic circumstance, and ability to handle tight deadlines calmly.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills - tailoring communications effectively for different groups and stakeholders.
- Strong Microsoft skills in Excel, SAP, JD Edwards, and Hyperion a plus.
