Position Overview

This position is site based in Madison, WI

The Sr. Medical Communications Specialist supports comprehensive Medical Communications strategy and implementation activities. In close alignment with cross-functional Medical Education, Communication, and Training (MECT), Medical Affairs, and Screening Business Unit (SBU) Medical Affairs priorities, this role establishes innovative approaches to the development and amplification of Screening portfolio evidence-based narratives. A key function of this role is to align scientific narrative initiatives with internal and external communications that support the SBU Medical portfolio.

The Sr. Medical Communications Specialist is accountable for the development and delivery of end-to-end Medical Communication strategies and tactics that enable concise, accessible, fair, and balanced delivery of the scientific narrative for various medical audiences. In close alignment with Screening BU and corporate objectives, the incumbent will support integrated Medical Communication tactics that support internal and external needs, outreach, and education. The Sr. Medical Communications Specialist will leverage strong cross-functional relationships and alignment to ensure a consistent and aligned medical voice across a spectrum of communication channels. This position will also identify ways to transform insights derived from thought leader engagements, advocacy initiatives, and customer feedback into collateral that drives our strategic imperatives across the Enterprise.

The individual in this position will maintain visibility of key external stakeholders and influencers across the product portfolio through Medical Communication strategies, identifying ways to leverage relationships that amplify our narrative while addressing the needs of the customer and elevating Medical Communications activities to external customers to establish, maintain, or strengthen product positioning in guidelines.  

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Establish innovative approaches to amplify scientific narratives across the Screening Business Unit (SBU) for inclusion in customer-facing resources, placing the robust evidence-base of the portfolio at the forefront.
  • Lead the development and delivery of Medical Communications efforts that formulate product scientific narratives, evidence communication, and competitive evidence surveillance and communication activities.
  • Facilitate a medical communications center of excellence, establishing strong cross-functional commercial and interdepartmental partnerships to create communications plans for relevant evidence.
  • Compile concise and impactful medical materials (e.g., talking points, slides, Congress summaries, background materials, etc.) that prepare and empower field medical teams for scientific engagement.
  • Triage and surveil evidence for appropriate inclusion in education and communication channels that impact on-market, pipeline, and other market entrant materials.
  • Provide internal stakeholders with rapid written medical perspectives on high-impact emerging evidence which help inform cross-functional strategies and tactics.
  • Liaise with Medical Congress planning team to ensure consistent and timely medical communications strategy and tactics, including scientific content awareness, Medical talking points, evidence digests, and Congress summaries.
  • Identify opportunities for omnichannel implementation of the scientific narrative across platforms (e.g., website, congress engagement, ad boards, slide decks, etc.) to transform customer engagement and experiences while strengthening our brand. Liaise with Medical Training team to ensure planning and pull-through of medical communications material launches (e.g., talking points, slides, etc.).
  • Provide scientific leadership to the management and development of scientific platforms and narratives to drive consistency across medical communication tools and channels.
  • Organize and develop materials and processes to communicate internal studies and their business relevance to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain SOPs and processes to support medical communications operations.
  • Maintain knowledge base of current medical evidence in collaboration with MECT team.
  • Complete all assigned training and professional development requirements.
  • High level prioritization, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing high-quality work.
  • Superior customer service skills; proven track record of fostering relationships, establishing partnerships, and collaborating on projects with stakeholders across multiple segments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D./Pharm.D./D.O./M.D.; or Master’s degree in life sciences or related scientific field and 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of Ph.D./Pharm.D./D.O./M. D.; or Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related scientific field and 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of Master’s degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in related field of expertise.
  • Proven track record of high-level prioritization skills and project management to organize and execute assigned workload and employ efficient time management strategies.
  • Experience in medical writing and/or information management.
  • Demonstrated ability to support collaborations with external vendors and partners.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. regulatory standards related to communication and dissemination of medical information and adequate evidence to support product claims, messaging, and presentations by applying the appropriate evidence for a product, e.g., FDA standards to Class III PMA devices.
  • Proficient in using information technology, including MS Office, PCs, and databases.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S./M.D./Pharm.D./Ph.D. in life sciences.
  • Previous medical communications experience.
  • GI experience.

$78,000.00 - $156,00.00 (National Salary)

Salary Range:

$101,000.00 - $172,000.00The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
