SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems and components for our hydronic boilers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional Engineering teams, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure the successful development, enhancement, validation of high-quality products throughout the life-cycle.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
  1. Design and Development:
  • Lead the design, test and development of mechanical systems and various components adhering to company and industry standards such as hydronic boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and controls.
  • Drive design changes through engineering change management processes while ensuring product quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead engineering activities related to product enhancements, lifecycle management, value engineering, quality improvements, and regulatory and safety compliance updates.
  • Analyze and interpret test data, making design modifications, if necessary, to meet product performance and safety requirements.
  • Work with designers on the detailed layout, prints, parts specifications, and bill of materials for the product.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for complex product, manufacturing, supplier, or field performance issues.
  • Create 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.


  1. Project Management and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, and Manufacturing team to define product requirements and specifications for product improvements and new product development initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of activities related to product design and development.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Engineering teams to formulate and update product design specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to other engineers and departments as needed.

    1. Drive product innovations that improve efficiency, reliability and customer satisfaction
    2. Influence product strategy and engineering best practices
    3. Balance product performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability when developing engineering solutions


What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience
  • 7 years of progressive mechanical engineering in product design, development or sustaining engineering. Experience in the design and development of boilers, hydronic systems or similar heating systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on multiple engineering projects from concept through production, including product enhancements, sustaining engineering, and/or new product introductions.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for 3D modeling.


Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects from concept through production launch.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with product testing, validation, and compliance with regulatory standards, such as ASME, CSA, and ANSI
  • Experience with boiler control systems, automation, and Internet of Things (IOT) technologies is a plus.

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

Travel & Working Environment
  • Work in an office environment, able to use a computer, provide oral and written communication.
  • Manufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot and eye protection when in production areas.
