BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY: The role of Sr. Manager, Supply Chain & Inventory Management is responsible for directing, planning and organizing all Supply Planning, Purchasing, and Inventory Management related activities in support of sales goals and objectives This key position plays a critical role in advancing MSC's digital supply chain capabilities by leveraging data, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to enhance forecasting accuracy, inventory performance, and decision-making. The role ensures governance through policies, standards, and procedures while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the planning function, while working cross functionally with Category Management, Distribution Center Leadership, Logistics and A/P.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Directs, plans, and leads all Purchasing/Branch Purchasing/Supply Planning/Inventory Mgmt activities in support of sales goals and objectives. Prioritizes, plans and manages operational purchasing/supply planning responsibilities.
- Develops and implements purchasing business strategies to meet purchasing customer service goals, corporate profit goals and return on equity goals including, but not limited to fill rate, stocking & replenishment strategies for all locations, inventory turns, backorders and exceptions.
- Develops and builds supplier relationships. Meets with suppliers and instructs them in MSC purchasing processes in addition to any necessary standards for doing business with MSC. Monitors supplier performance and takes corrective action as required.
- Analyzes performance against goals, analyzes results and initiates appropriate action for all purchasing to meet corporate and departmental goals.
- Develops and manages a well-trained and effective staff capable of performing all necessary functions and capable of playing a key role in meeting the corporate growth goals. Manages Purchasing Planning Managers, and Purchasing Planners.
- Develops and maintains departmental operating expense and inventory budgets, ensures adherence to budgets, and takes corrective action, as required.
- Manages the review and approval of all purchase orders and opportunity buys for high-dollar purchase orders in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
- Partners with Business Unit Managers and Sr. Category Manager's in driving effective business decisions for MSC.
- Ownership of development and enforcement of supplier performance standards for the Supply Planning/Inventory department.
- Creates, implements, and enforces purchasing policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.
- Develops strong cross-functional relationships external to Supply Planning/Inventory to achieve goals and improvement opportunities. Collaborates with Category leadership to establish strategies and to develop and implement goals.
- Monitors relationship between Supply Chain Planning Managers, Purchasing Planners, Sr. Category Managers, Category Managers and Category Specialists to ensure development and successful implementation of cooperative business plans with key suppliers.
- Analyzes and develops system enhancements including the designing of user requirements.
- Partners with Inventory recovery/control & Finance to develop and implement Inventory donation projects
- Leads significant cross-functional projects to ensure goals and timelines are met.
- Improves profitability by cost reduction purchases, cost avoidance, and process improvements on a cross-functional basis.
- Develops and presents high level presentations to executive management. Conducts and organizes regular departmental meetings to ensure communication of strategy and resolution of common issues.
- Partners with the different Sales teams (Government, Branches, Showrooms) to develop and drive cooperative business plans that focus on customer service levels and inventory management. Improves profitability by cost reduction purchases, cost avoidance, and process improvements on a cross-functional basis.
- Develops, manages and delegates the implementation of training programs.
- Develops reporting to measure standards.
- Performs all duties inherent in the role of MSC Manager as defined by the MSC Code of Conduct including hiring, termination, review, and development of associates.
- Supports and/or owns inventory solutions and programs that require purchasing involvement.
- Supports Supply Chain ops in Inventory clean-up activities in DCs
- Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS What You Need: - Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field or equivalent experience required. Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum eight years of relevant experience (supply chain/S&OP/Planning/Inventory) required.
- Minimum five years of experience managing associates required.
- Experience in leading projects required.
- Experience working with advanced planning systems (e.g., Blue Yonder or equivalent) and ERP platforms
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven forecasting, optimization models, or advanced analytics tools
- Excellent leadership, analytical, mathematical, computer, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis with regards to supply chain processes required.
- Knowledge of key inventory performance metrics and S&OP process required.
- Outstanding analytical capabilities with strong Excel and other quantitative tool skills required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong negotiation skills required.
Bonus Points If You Have: - Supply Chain Management Certifications (CPIM, CSCP) preferred.
- Project Management Certification (PMP, CSM, ACP) preferred.
- Proficiency in SQL/PowerBI or comparable tools preferred.
- Understanding of end-to-end supply chain management processes preferred.
Other Requirements: - A valid driver's license may be required.
- Position requires up to 25% of travel
- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information ("ITAR") and/or Controlled Unclassified Information ("CUI")
Compensation starting at $97100 - $150143 depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
