Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a(n) Sr. Manager, Business Engagement and Commercial Categories, this hybrid position will be located in New Brunswick, NJ (USA). Alternate Hybrid locations maybe considered at Raritan, NJ (USA); West Chester, PA (USA); Palm Beach Gardens, FL (USA); Raynham, MA (USA); Warsaw, IN (USA).

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

The Senior Manager is responsible for leading the procurement strategy for the Commercial Category. They will deliver cost efficiency, quality, innovation, and sustainability outcomes that enable DPS's business growth. Applying their category subject matter expertise, they will partner closely with key business partners to define sourcing strategies, shape the supply base, and drive supplier relationships.

Determine the business needs in the categories and devise Procurement strategies to advance those priorities. Identify industry trends that Procurement must build into its category strategies to ensure sustainable relevance to the business

As a business engagement leader (BEL) works directly with DPS business leadership and key partners to align Procurement activities. Responsible for leading critical procurement processes and projects. This role requires engaging with business partners and stakeholders to define procurement activities with the organization's objectives. The individual will also provide sourcing, supplier relationship management, project management and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of category strategies to establish a world class organization and supply base that the Depuy Synthes Company can leverage to create a competitive advantage


  • Align category strategies with the company strategy and goals


  • Deliver financial, ESG, service, and innovation targets


  • Steward financial policy and responsible supplier and procurement standards


  • Leverage and maximize fit for purpose procurement process solutions, including the utilization of world class digital solutions, use of business process outsourcing, and deployment of internal resources


  • Engage with executive leadership in key supplier relationships


  • Cultivate a culture of inclusion, learning and engagement


  • Benchmark industry best practices and continuously advance procurement capabilities


  • Orchestrate the delivery of procurement services amongst the commercial organization through close collaboration and partnership


  • Understand long-range requirements of the business and engage in strategic planning and collaboration to ensure Procurement alignment to those requirements.


  • Engage with business partners and stakeholders to shape business partner strategies and provide external market insights.


  • Deliver on procurement financial, operational, citizenship and innovation commitments.


  • Anticipate business demand requirements and partner within category team to deliver annual value improvements that drive competitive advantage.


  • Conduct analytics and innovative work to implement the category strategy, finding creative and innovative solutions for unmet business needs in collaboration with regional category leads.


  • Lead major strategic negotiations for owned categories on behalf of the business


  • Promote digital tools and automation opportunities.


  • Use procurement systems and analytics to generate insights and drive continuous improvement in supplier and sourcing performance.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, an MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred


  • A minimum of 8 years of working experience in procurement or a related discipline is required


  • Experience in Procurement and/or Category Management. Experience developing category strategies or multi-year sourcing roadmaps.


  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of cost drivers, market dynamics, and risk trade-offs.


  • Experiencein sourcing strategy, supplier management, competitive bidding and complex contract negotiation


  • Proficiency in Excel, with strong advanced analytics skills to analyze insights, spend, or supplier performance evaluation.


  • Familiarity with digital and AI procurement tools


  • Strong presentation and executive communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with and influence business partners.


  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional sourcing initiatives/projects.


  • Leadership, communication, influencing, and collaboration skills are required


  • Travel up to 10% domestic & international may be required


  • Strong business acumen - the ability to understand challenges through the eyes of the business leaders


  • Influencing skills - the ability to persuade others to change behavior in pursuit of a common goal

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation -120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
