JOB SUMMARY:

The Sr. Manager - Manufacturing Engineering provides strategic leadership and oversight of the manufacturing engineering function across the entire campus. This role ensures alignment of engineering resources, processes, and priorities to maximize efficiency, streamline operations, and support organizational goals. The Manager will drive collaboration across departments, optimize resource allocation, and establish standardized practices to enhance productivity, quality, and innovation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership & Alignment
  • Functionally align manufacturing engineers across the campus to ensure consistent practices, resource sharing, and streamlined workflows.
  • Develop and implement a unified vision for the manufacturing engineering function that supports operational excellence and organizational strategy.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
  • Responsible for setting the direction and producing the strategy for the manufacturing engineering group
  • Responsible for building the capability of the team to support the campus needs in all conditions
  • Create an innovative environment that inspires new ways of working
  • Establish KPI's for the function
  • Understand business objectives and strategy and effectively disseminate to rest of team

Resource Optimization and Talent Development
  • Assess and allocate engineering resources across the campus to balance workload, eliminate redundancies, and maximize efficiency.
  • Establish standardized processes, tools, and documentation practices to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement automation, lean manufacturing, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent, with a focus on succession planning, career path mapping, and cross-campus collaboration.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work effectively with and build relationships with function peers (ie. R&D, Quality, and Operations Managers, etc)
  • Effectively interface and work with the maintenance team to ensure equipment is running at full capability and that repairs are completed efficiently and that up-time is optimized
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Development to ensure manufacturing engineering supports organizational priorities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering teams and leadership, ensuring clear communication of goals, progress, and challenges.
  • Represent Garlock in customer visits, trade events, and professional societies, showcasing the company's engineering capabilities.

Strategic Initiatives
  • Drive campus-wide initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Support new product development by ensuring manufacturing readiness and scalable production processes.
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Understand cost drivers and high-level business metrics
