Primary Purpose

The Senior Manager, Financial Systems is responsible for leading the functional support, administration, governance, and optimization and continuous improvement of the Company's enterprise-wide financial systems. The position serves as a key liaison between Corporate Accounting, Tax and Finance, IT SPP service providers and software vendors to ensure all financial systems effectively support all business teams and their related business processes.

The Senior Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of application configuration, financial data, processes, controls, and system-related business operations across the enterprise financial systems portfolio, including Oracle Cloud ERP and EPM, Utilities International, PowerPlan, Kyriba, and Cadency.

The position partners closely with IT and third-party service providers while coordinating priorities for functional support, production operations, system releases, and issue resolution. It also maintains Finance ownership of functional requirements, business processes, configuration decisions, testing, and business outcomes.

Primary Duties

Financial Systems Leadership and Functional Support
  • Lead the functional support and administration of enterprise-wide Finance applications
  • Establish priorities and provide leadership to Financial Systems managers, analysts, contractors, and functional support resources responsible for supporting the enterprise Finance community.
  • Ensure financial applications are available and effectively support critical business processes, including monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and financial cycles.
  • Oversee resolution and escalation of significant production issues, coordinating with Finance, IT, application vendors, and external support providers as required.
  • Ensure appropriate functional ownership and accountability for system configuration, processes, financial data, integrations, and application-related business operations.

Actuals & Planning Business Cycle Support
  • Provide leadership and oversight for Financial Systems support of monthly, quarterly, and annual Actuals and Planning activities.
  • Coordinate system readiness and support for critical Finance processing schedules and business deadlines.
  • Establish appropriate escalation protocols for business-critical application issues and coordinate resolution across Finance, IT, software vendors, and service providers.
  • Evaluate recurring production issues and drive sustainable solutions that improve reliability and reduce operational risk.

System Governance, Configuration, Controls and Compliance
  • Establish and maintain governance over functional configuration and significant application changes across enterprise Finance applications.
  • Ensure appropriate controls exist over financial system configuration, access, data, interfaces, and change management.
  • Maintain documentation required to support Sarbanes-Oxley, internal controls, internal and external audit requests, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Accounting, Audit, IT, and system owners to assess and address financial systems risks.
  • Ensure system functionality and configuration remain aligned with Finance policies, accounting requirements, and control objectives.

Release Management, Enhancements and Continuous Improvement
  • Provide functional governance and oversight for application releases, patches, upgrades, fixes, and enhancements.
  • Ensure appropriate impact assessments, regression testing, user acceptance testing, and business validation are completed before production implementation.
  • Partner with the Finance COE - Technology and Innovation to alignment on the functional enhancement roadmap and backlog
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve financial controls, simplify business processes, and improve the Finance user experience.
  • Evaluate new functionality and emerging technologies for potential application within Finance.

Business Partnership and Technology Strategy
  • Serve as a senior Finance liaison across all stakeholders for matters involving enterprise financial systems.
  • Translate Finance requirements into functional system strategies and solutions.
  • Advise Finance leadership regarding system capabilities, risks, constraints, priorities, and opportunities.
  • Partner with IT on application architecture, integrations, performance, security, technical strategy, and lifecycle planning while maintaining clear Finance functional ownership.
  • Represent Financial Systems in cross-platform and boundary system projects, ensuring consistency and conformance with Financial Systems operating assumptions and transactional requirements.
  • Support the strategic roadmap for the enterprise financial systems portfolio.

Vendor, Contract and Resource Management
  • Provide oversight of third-party functional support resources and service providers supporting enterprise Finance applications.
  • Establish service expectations, priorities, performance measures, escalation processes, and deliverables for external Financial Systems resources.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Finance leadership and vendors on support agreements, renewals, licensing, and service requirements.
  • Ensure external resources effectively supplement internal Financial Systems capabilities and create sustainable solutions and knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain effective executive-level relationships with strategic application and service providers.


Job Scope
• Daily department responsibility for 4 direct reports and a total team of 24 finance professionals across four geographic locations, including on-shore/off-shore resources from a third-party services provider.
• Work is diversified and complex in nature. It involves understanding financial systems, accounting and financial planning processes and procedures. Requires exercise of judgement and ingenuity to identify the most appropriate course of action in each situation.
• Interacts with Accounting/Finance peers up through the SVP level

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, financial systems, enterprise applications, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing professional employees and/or large functional support teams.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and financial business processes.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise financial systems and related technologies.
• Experience supporting business-critical financial applications and financial processing cycles.
• Demonstrated understanding of internal controls, financial systems governance, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
• Demonstrated project, program, and change-management capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work across Finance and IT organizations and effectively manage competing priorities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial and technical topics to senior leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, consultants, and external service providers.
• Commitment to high standards of integrity, quality, accountability, and customer service.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Oracle ERP financial and project-related functionality and Oracle EPM applications supporting consolidation, account reconciliation, planning, profitability/cost management, data management and reporting, or similar for other large SaaS offerings.
• Experience supporting PowerPlan, Utilities International, Kyriba, and/or Cadency.
• Experience leading enterprise financial system implementations, conversions, upgrades, or transformation programs.
• Experience with Oracle Cloud release management and regression testing.
• Experience overseeing third-party managed service/support organizations.
• Experience developing enterprise application roadmaps and identifying automation and continuous-improvement opportunities.
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• CPA or other relevant professional certification.
• Public accounting and/or regulated utility industry experience.
