JOB DESCRIPTION:The Sr. Manager, External Reporting is responsible for managing all aspects of our external SEC reporting and technical accounting, as well as direct involvement and review of the consolidation process in Oracle FCCS and ownership of certain internal reporting deliverables. The position requires a strong self-starter with an exceptional work ethic, strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.
Position location: Deerfield, IL - Hybrid (Flexibility to work from home Mondays and Fridays)
RESPONSIBLIITIES:What you will be doing- Manages the preparation of SEC filings, including Annual Form 10-K, Quarterly Form 10-Q and other required filings. Leverages monthly and quarterly business review materials in addition to other internal strategic publications to build a sound understanding of the business which enables ownership of MD&A section and all the footnotes to the financial statements.
- Responsibility for detailed review of the financial statement disclosures, the tie-out information for notes to the financial statements, and completion of disclosure controls and procedures related to internal control over financial reporting.
- Manages the accounting process around acquisitions and divestitures, including the roll forward of closing balance sheet to opening balance sheet and the preparation of technical memoranda associated with acquisition accounting.
- Provides support to Investor Relations in earnings release and other financial information.
- Manages various monthly and quarterly reporting activities including restructuring analysis, defined benefit plans review, monthly cash reports and other pertinent analyses.
- Manages in the development, maintenance, and distribution of Fortune Brands accounting policies; leading efforts with the business units in ensuring consistent application of enterprise -wide accounting policies.
- Effectively manages the relationship and process with external auditors, internal auditors and actuaries for preparation of the Company's regulatory filings.
- Research technical accounting matters, monitors US GAAP and SEC developments, assists with company-wide implementation of new accounting pronouncements and reporting requirements.
- Assists Fortune's business units and corporate accounting assessment of complex technical accounting matters including defined benefit plans, acquisition accounting, share based compensation, restructuring, EPS and revenue recognition.
- Manages the preparation and review of goodwill and indefinite-lived intangible asset testing.
- Manages the preparation and review of definite-lived intangible asset and long-lived asset group testing.
- Provide support or lead other key strategic projects as needed.
- Perform and/or coordinate yearly performance reviews for direct report(s) including assistance in career development where appropriate.
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - B.A/B.S. in Accounting
- 7+ years of accounting experience in external reporting
- CPA
- 5+ years of management experience
- Possess technical expertise related to GAAP and external reporting including, but not limited to, SEC reporting, business combinations, pension accounting, intangible assets, revenue recognition and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Demonstrated recent experience in researching and preparing technical accounting memoranda for complex issues and new pronouncements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Master's degree
- Public Accounting experience with public company clients
- Oracle FCCS and/or SAP experience a plus
