Senior Manager, Billing & Collections

Locations: Hartford, CT or New York, NY
Schedule: Hybrid (3 Days In Office)

Salary Range:

  • New York: $160,000 - $200,000
  • Connecticut: $130,000 - $175,000


A highly respected law firm is seeking a Senior Manager, Billing & Collections to join its Finance & Accounting leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual will play a critical role in driving the firm's revenue cycle strategy, enhancing billing and collections operations, and leading a high-performing team.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive law firm billing and collections experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for improving processes, leveraging technology, and developing innovative client billing solutions. This is an exceptional opportunity to partner closely with firm leadership, attorneys, and finance professionals to optimize financial performance while delivering exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Cycle Leadership

  • Oversee all billing activities across the firm, including standard billing, alternative fee arrangements, and LEDES/e-billing processes.
  • Monitor unbilled time and outstanding invoices to ensure timely resolution and escalation of issues when necessary.
  • Lead and execute the firm's overall billing and collections strategy.
Team Management

  • Manage and mentor the Billing and Collections team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide ongoing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities for team members.
Strategic Partnership

  • Collaborate with attorneys, managers, directors, and firm leadership to develop and implement effective billing and collection solutions.
  • Advise attorneys and billing professionals on budgeting strategies and client-specific billing requirements.
  • Support the development of creative and innovative fee arrangements that align with client expectations and firm objectives.
Reporting & Analytics

  • Create, maintain, and enhance billing and collections forecasts, reporting, and financial metrics.
  • Analyze trends and performance data to support strategic decision-making and firm goals.
  • Track key revenue cycle indicators and recommend operational improvements.
Process Improvement & Technology

  • Drive consistency and standardization across firm-wide billing and collections practices.
  • Oversee billing and collections technology platforms and identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
  • Support system upgrades, implementations, and other technology-focused initiatives.
Client & Matter Support

  • Review and manage complex client billing and collections requests.
  • Coordinate responses to client data requests and reporting needs.
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific billing guidelines and requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Finance and Accounting team members to support broader departmental initiatives.
  • Train stakeholders throughout the firm on billing procedures, changes, and best practices.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Extensive experience in billing, collections, and revenue cycle management within a law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.
  • Strong analytical and financial management skills.
  • Experience managing alternative fee arrangements, LEDES billing, and e-billing platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional services environment.
Preferred

  • Experience leading large-scale process improvement initiatives.
