Position Overview

As a Sr. Manager, Audit Services - Technology at CarMax, you will lead technology audits and advisory engagements that strengthen governance, risk management, and compliance across the organization. This role helps shape the audit plan, manages complex projects, and guides a high-performing team to deliver insights that drive excellence and mitigate risk. You will partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to evaluate technology processes, applications, infrastructure (including the annual SOX 404 audit); system implementations; new initiatives; and key operational processes.

Team Overview

You will lead the Technology Audit team within CarMax Audit Services, managing internal auditors and, on occasion, external consultants to execute technology audits and projects for IT processes, applications, infrastructure, system implementations, operational audits, and SOX 404 compliance. Your leadership drives alignment, strengthens risk awareness, and promotes continuous improvement.

Role Responsibilities
  • Direct the planning and execution of technology audits and reviews, including SOX IT compliance, system implementations, and risk-based IT audits.
  • Oversee project management activities, ensuring timelines, budgets, and resources align with strategic goals.
  • Build strategic relationships and collaborate with business partners to anticipate and evaluate risk and deliver exceptional business partner experiences. Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities.
  • Communicate audit results and recommendations clearly to key stakeholders and senior leadership through quality, high-impact deliverables and insights.
  • Support the department risk assessment and annual audit planning, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and stay abreast of technology, audit, and risk management best practices and lead department initiatives to identify efficiencies and improvements across audit processes and tools.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting Information Systems, Technology, Computer Science, Accounting/Finance, or related field.
  • CISA, CRISC, CIA certification. 8+ years of experience in IT audit, risk, or compliance, with expertise in internal controls, SOX 404, system implementations, risk assessment processes, and risk-based audits.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience, managing direct reports and driving team performance.
  • Strong knowledge of application, operating system, and database technology; IT general controls, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and IT governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver results.
  • Proficient planning and project management, across multiple projects.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Big Four firm or Fortune 500 company, with advanced knowledge of IT risk and controls.
  • Advanced degree in Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • Industry experience in retail or financial services (public company).


Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

The annual salary for this position is:
$125,500.00 - $200,800.00
May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.


Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
