Overview

The Senior Manager, Accounting serves as a key accounting leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, general ledger integrity, lease accounting, 1099 compliance and reporting, expense recognition, and compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. This role manages and develops accounting staff, provides oversight for complex and non-routine transactions, and ensures accounting processes support accurate, scalable, and reliable financial operations.

 

This position requires deep technical accounting expertise, strong people leadership, and sound professional judgment in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. The Senior Manager partners closely with Finance, FP&A, Tax, auditors, and other stakeholders to evaluate accounting matters, including lease accounting under ASC 842, 1099 reporting, support audit readiness, strengthen financial governance, and deliver reporting and insights that inform leadership decision-making.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Close Management:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to ensure financial results are timely, complete, accurate, and supported by appropriate documentation. Review and/or prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules; validate source data and resolve issues in collaboration with Finance and cross-functional stakeholders. Maintain strong ownership of general ledger integrity and reporting quality.

Compliance, Controls and Audit:

  • Ensure accounting activities comply with internal controls, company policies, U.S. GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements. Coordinate internal and external audit support, including preparation and review of audit schedules, documentation, and responses to audit inquiries. Identify control gaps, recommend improvements, and support remediation efforts to strengthen financial governance and reduce risk.

Business Partnership and Strategic Support:

  • Serve as a trusted accounting partner to Finance, FP&A, Tax, and other stakeholders to ensure accounting considerations are reflected in planning, forecasting, and business decisions. Provide technical accounting guidance on complex, judgmental, or non-routine transactions, including lease accounting under ASC 842. Prepare clear documentation and analysis to support recommendations, audit readiness, and leadership decision-making.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff by setting clear expectations, providing timely feedback, supporting professional development, and managing performance. Prioritize work, allocate resources, remove barriers, and ensure team deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting team.

Process Improvement and Operational Excellence:

  • Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, systems, reporting workflows, and controls to enhance accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and consistency. Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes, improve financial reporting timeliness and quality, and strengthen the accounting infrastructure. Partner with cross-functional teams to implement practical solutions that support department and organizational goals.
Qualifications

Required Field of Study:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Minimum Years of Experience Required:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and close management; including 3+ years of experience managing accounting staff and overseeing financial processes.

Description of Minimum Experience Required:

  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Experience supporting audits and maintaining effective internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with financial data analysis and reporting.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur, and Avalara platforms.
  • Experience managing an Accounts Payable team, including payments to foreign entities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Field of Study:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (e.g., MBA).
  • Preferred Years of Experience: 

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and close management; including 5+ years of management experience leading accounting staff and overseeing financial processes.
  • Description of Preferred Experience:

  • Proven experience supporting accounting or finance initiatives within professional associations or nonprofit organizations.
  • Successful experience implementing or supporting ASC 842 lease accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur, and Avalara platforms.
  • Experience managing an Accounts Payable team, including payments to foreign entities.
  • Certification and Licensing Preferred:

    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

    Competencies/Skills Required:

    • Strong business partnering skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
    • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting
    • Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur, and Avalara for 1099
    • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet objectives and deadlines
    • Managing teams, accounting supervisory roles
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and ongoing daily work seamlessly

    This position may require periodic onsite attendance, either currently or in the future, based on business needs. Occasional travel may also be required to attend company-sponsored events, meetings, all-hands gatherings, training sessions, or other activities necessary to support the essential functions of the role.
