Full Job Description
SpecPro Sustainment and Environmental, LLC is looking for a Senior Interior Designer to provide on-site professional support services to the Production Design Construction Division (PDC4) of the Production Design and Construction Directorate (PDC), Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast (NAVFAC SE), at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. The Senior Interior Designer serves as a recognized subject matter expert in comprehensive interior design for Navy and Marine Corps facilities, supporting projects from planning through design, construction, and occupancy.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide independent, timely, and professional specialized interior design support, services, and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development.
  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive interior design packages, including structural interior design (SID) - interior finishes, materials, colors, and signage integrated into construction documents - and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) packages with furniture plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Develop and oversee space planning studies, furniture layouts, finish schedules, and design presentation materials for new construction and renovation projects across a wide range of facility types, including housing; community support facilities (dining halls, clubs, fitness centers, child development centers); medical facilities; education and training facilities; administration buildings; and operations buildings.
  • Prepare and review interior design portions of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), scopes of work, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates; review third-party and A/E interior design submittals for compliance with criteria and codes, provide comments, and ensure resolution and incorporation.
  • Coordinate collateral equipment budgets and procurement documentation in support of project delivery.
  • Apply advanced interior design concepts and develop innovative solutions to effectively assess and meet customer requirements, including for projects not readily addressed by conventional approaches.
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify existing conditions and establish interior design requirements.
  • Lead conferences with project stakeholders and customer user groups, and collaborate with architectural and engineering disciplines to ensure design coordination and integration with project requirements. Provide mentorship and design review support for junior design staff.

Requirements
  • Mastery-level knowledge of comprehensive interior design concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques, including structural interior design and FF&E, as they apply to a wide range of shore installation facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy as related to interior design, including UFC 3-120-10 (Interior Design), the International Building Code, the Life Safety Code, and accessibility standards (ABA/ADA).
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices, including UFC 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements, LEED, and Green Globes.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and statutory requirements affecting interior design throughout the NAVFAC Southeast area of responsibility (AOR).
  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to interior design.
  • Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software (AutoCAD and/or Revit), Microsoft Office products, interior design and presentation software, and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command.
  • Ability to produce results of analysis in writing, consolidate findings of others, and evaluate recommendations and facts; ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.
  • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance, and use of personal protective equipment.

Experience & Education
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of professional, code-compliant interior design experience for facilities, for new construction including renovation design, is required. Experience preparing FF&E and collateral equipment packages for DoD or other federal projects is required.
  • Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Interior Design from a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) accredited program, or a degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program with considerable hands-on interior design experience, is required.
  • Certification: NCIDQ certification is desired.

Work Environment
  • Full-time, on-site position at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. Standard 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; alternative schedules may be considered.
  • Site visits to active construction areas are required. Government-provided PPE (safety vest, hard hat, eye and hearing protection) will be used; safety-toed boots meeting ASTM F2413 are the responsibility of the employee.

Eligibility Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) and favorably complete a Tier 3 background investigation for base and IT system access.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license is required; a company vehicle is provided for performance of on-site duties.
