Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Geologist will lead and perform the 3D geo-modelling of the Ray orebody, optimize the existing model and create new modelling in support of daily mine production and long-term resource. Interpretation and synthesis of geological and geochemical data, provide senior level technical leadership in the office and field, and assist and support Mine Geology and Mine Planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Modelling the Ray orebody in Hexagon MineSight and/or Leapfrog Geo software
  • Interpretation and integration of lithological, geochemical, structural, and mineral process data from drilling, mapping, and mineral processing
  • Update and maintenance of the AcQuire database
  • Supervise the conversation of legacy data to digital
  • Technical leadership and support to mine geologists in the field and office including training and mentoring
  • Technical excellence and guidance with sample auditing and QA-QC reporting
  • Plan and supervise and drilling projects and sampling programs
  • Manage and assist with mapping, logging, and grade control
  • Assist in the supervision, administration, and technical overview of all geological work done at the mine as required.
  • Perform the assigned duties for Engineers and Geologists as described in the ASARCO Total Safety Culture Program

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced knowledge of ore deposits and structural geology
  • Knowledge of porphyry copper deposits and associated alteration assemblages
  • Advanced computer skills and proven proficiency in 3D geomodelling software (MineSight 3D or Leapfrog Geo); a working knowledge of IoGas and AcQuire (or other database), and GIS (ArcGIS preferred)
  • A positive attitude at all times
  • Fluent English with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently, manage time effectively and set priorities
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing trust and teambuilding

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geosciences or equivalent required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years' work experience, 10 years preferred
  • Previous work experience in the mining industry required and familiarity with the processes and workflow in a surface mine setting
  • Proficiency in MineSight or Leapfrog Geo required
