This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking for a Sr. Fluid Distribution Subsystem Responsible Engineer/Technical Lead for our Fluids team working our pathfinding mission to the moon. The Fluid Responsible Engineer will provide technical leadership to the team, supporting members, advising on technical approaches, and bringing your experience on our most challenging technical problems. Supporting the life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation.  Plan out components schedules, manage risks and develop mitigation plans for your hardware. Work with both internal and external suppliers to design, build, test and analyze components that will take us to the moon!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Define, own, and control the liquid subsystem technical baseline, performing technical work and providing technical leadership of the highest caliber.
  • Define, own, and control the subsystem cost and schedule baseline, driving continuous improvement and refinement of the baseline to meet needs and targets in a dynamic development environment.
  • Manage external procurements and internal hardware dependencies required to meet subsystem deliveries.
  • Lead and perform technical trades on cryogenic systems that meet vehicle and customer needs
  • Develop program plans to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Mentor the team with strategies and best practices for development of their components
  • Lead internal and external cryogenic technological development meetings
  • Cradle-to-grave ownership of cryogenic subsystem

Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
  • 10+ years of experience in fluids and mechanical systems/components
  • Experience developing, integrating and certifying aerospace systems for flight 
  • Experience with fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels and instrumentation
  • Experience leading small teams and subcontractor teams to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Familiar with either agile or waterfall project management
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships

Desired: 

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Systems Engineering experience, specifically requirements and interface definition, management and verification
  • Cryogenic fluids experience
  • Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred).
  • Experience with upper stages and spacecraft
  • Experience with the entire life cycle of a propulsion and fluid system

Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
