Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Finance partner to the Sr. Director, supporting Global Functions.
  • Provide financial leadership and communicate risks and opportunities for decision-making.
  • Own the Global Payroll budget and assist with forecasting and financial planning.
  • Develop models and perform analysis for workforce planning and resource allocation.
  • Deliver actionable insights through financial performance analysis and variance explanations.
  • Manage cost allocations and ensure compliance with financial controls.
  • Support strategic initiatives in technology and vendor engagements.

Job Description

The Sr. Financial Analyst, Global Functions Finance will support finance activities across Global Functions with a focus on standardizing, simplifying and automating recurring financial processes. This role will partner across functional Finance teams to develop common approaches to reporting, forecasting, business reviews, data management and financial planning.

A key part of the role will be helping Global Functions Finance improve the quality, consistency and structure of financial data used across the organization. While the individual may not own source-system data directly, they will provide guidance, oversight and recommendations to improve data definitions, governance, integration and usability.

The role will also serve as a strong advocate for the use of technology, automation and AI within Finance. The successful candidate should be energized by emerging technologies, actively identify practical AI use cases, challenge manual ways of working and help accelerate adoption across the Global Functions Finance organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner across Global Functions Finance teams to standardize recurring financial processes, including reporting, forecasting, business reviews, templates and planning calendars. 

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, centralize and automate repeatable finance activities, reducing manual effort and improving consistency across functions. 

  • Serve as a champion for AI, automation and emerging technology within Finance, proactively identifying use cases and helping teams adopt new ways of working. 

  • Evaluate Finance processes and recommend opportunities to use AI and automation for reporting, commentary, analysis, workflow management, data preparation and other recurring activities. 

  • Support Global Functions financial consolidation, forecasting, AOP, STRAP and performance reporting

  • Develop and maintain standardized forecasting models, reporting tools and analytical templates that can be leveraged across multiple functions. 

  • Help establish consistent data definitions, structures and governance practices across Global Functions Finance. 

  • Partner with Finance, systems and data teams to identify data-quality issues and recommend improvements to data sourcing, mapping, validation, reconciliation and integration. 

  • Provide oversight and guidance to improve the accuracy, consistency, traceability and usability of financial data across reporting and planning processes. 

  • Develop dashboards and reporting solutions that improve transparency, accessibility and consistency of financial information. 

  • Partner with functional Finance teams to understand existing processes, identify common requirements and implement scalable solutions while preserving appropriate business context and judgment. 

  • Establish process documentation, controls and cross-training to improve sustainability, governance and knowledge sharing. 

  • Track process improvements and help quantify improvements in cycle time, quality, automation and capacity. 

  • Provide financial analysis and decision support for cross-functional Global Functions initiatives as needed. 

Location

Primary office location is Waltham, MA (Thermo Fisher Scientific Headquarters).

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required; MBA and/or CPA/CFA preferred. 

  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, analysis and reporting. 

  • Strong understanding of core FP&A processes, financial controls and month-end/quarter-end reporting. 

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to work with large and complex data sets. 

  • Strong appreciation for data quality, structure and governance, with the ability to identify inconsistencies and recommend practical improvements. 

  • Experience with enterprise financial systems and reporting tools; experience with Power BI, automation platforms, data visualization or related technologies preferred. 

  • Demonstrated ability to identify process-improvement opportunities and develop practical, scalable solutions. 

  • Strong passion for AI, automation and emerging technology, with curiosity about how these capabilities can reshape Finance. 

  • Demonstrated willingness to challenge traditional ways of working, experiment with new tools and advocate for adoption across teams

  • Ability to translate new technology into practical Finance use cases and help others understand the value and potential impact. 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence without direct authority. 

  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a complex, highly matrixed organization. 

  • Strong problem-solving mindset, intellectual curiosity and a continuous-improvement orientation. 

Travel Requirements

  • Less than 10% domestic/international travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $103,100.00–$154,700.00.
