Full Job Description
Primary responsibility is to handle relatively complex facilities engineering and operational assignments. The engineer will coordinate with asset teams and/or technical professionals to support the completion of well hook-ups and infrastructure installation to ensure they are aligned with business objectives, maintain producing properties at a maximum economic rate, and comply with governmental and contractual requirements. Performs special studies relating to economic analysis, optimization, automation, and productivity. May supervise engineering design consultants and field contractors engaged in construction of projects. The scope of the position includes cost estimates, AFE preparation, and execution of all facilities design and construction. Mentoring less experienced engineers on fundamentals and supervising technical work make up a large portion of this role. This role includes leadership positions on teams and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to ensure the safest and most cost effective methods, while minimizing loss of production revenue through innovative techniques, procedures and equipment
  • Provide day to day functional guidance and technical support to Operations and engineering staff on design, installation and testing to ensure quality work and a timely and cost effective approach
  • Assist with cost projections, approvals for expenditures and budget control
  • Manage design as determined by internal control standards, and effectively communicate changes to management
  • Provide assistance to other engineers such as: peer technical review, mentoring and knowledge transfer
  • Function as Technical Reviewer and resource for various parts of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Integrity Management systems
  • Lead in Process Hazards Analysis, Facilities Hazards Identification, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct optimization studies
  • Identify hazards, best practices, evaluate state of the art equipment and practices and incorporate sound engineering practices for the design and construction of all new facilities
  • Maintain current and accurate facility documentation
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all facility issues and concerns
  • Support Business Development and Reservoir engineering in the preparation of scoping cost estimates for acquisitions and the budget and planning processes
  • On call support, including nights and weekends, may be required for field locations
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Computer/Software Applications
  • Expert level of skill in Microsoft Office. Experience with commonly used industry software, especially process modeling and project management tools.


Role Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge and operational experience with facilities and pipeline fabrication, piping materials, and construction practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of unconventional resource plays as they relate to facilities design and execution.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop crucial engineering drawings, Piping & Instrument Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, and upstream oil field process design.
  • Serves as project manager, liaison, and technical consultant on projects.
  • Handles joint venture negotiations and approvals. Responsible for permitting on larger projects.
  • Works with management to formulate broad objectives and priorities for project execution.
  • Designs, constructs, and modifies major equipment and facilities; endorses process design for major facilities.
  • Serves as expert witness before regulatory bodies.
  • Directs safety, compliance, and environmental reviews.
  • Provides technical evaluation of new technologies and troubleshoots large or complex facilities operations.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
  • Minimum of 8 years of applicable experience
