POSITION OVERVIEW

The Sr. Environmental Specialist supports environmental compliance programs at Pinto Valley Mine, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and permit conditions across air quality, water management, waste, hazardous materials, and wildlife programs. This role provides technical expertise, guidance, and oversight to environmental staff and supports site operations in maintaining compliance.

The position works closely with operations, leadership, corporate teams, and regulatory agencies to manage environmental monitoring, reporting, and permitting activities while supporting continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Environmental Compliance & Reporting: Support air, water, waste, and environmental programs; prepare and review regulatory reports including Annual Emissions Inventory, TRI FORM R, SMRF, DMR, APP, and AZPDES reports.
Permitting & Regulations: Support permitting activities, including air permit modifications, and maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
Audits & Issue Resolution: Conduct audits and inspections, identify compliance risks, and work with operations to implement corrective actions.
Data & Systems Management: Manage environmental data, analyze trends, and support reporting using environmental systems and databases.
Team Support: Provide guidance to Environmental Specialists and serve as acting Environmental Superintendent as needed.
Procedures, Training & Monitoring: Maintain environmental procedures and plans, oversee sampling activities, and deliver training to site personnel.
Sustainability & Stakeholder Support: Support sustainability initiatives and reporting, and coordinate with internal teams, corporate, and regulatory agencies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related field
• 5-8 years of experience supporting environmental compliance programs (air, water, waste, or remediation)
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements
• Experience with environmental data management and reporting systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred
• Mining industry experience
• Experience with systems such as Monitor Pro or similar environmental databases
• Experience supporting sustainability or ESG reporting initiatives
• Relevant certifications such as HAZWOPER, RCRA, or Method 9

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Combination of office-based and field-based work in an active mining operation
• Regular fieldwork supporting sampling, inspections, and operational support
• Walking on uneven ground and navigating industrial work areas
• Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational areas

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty'. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
